What security protocols does Bitdefender VPN use?

I'm studying cybersecurity and am currently on the chapters about VPN; so I'm curious about which protocols my preferred VPN (Bitdefender) uses.

Looking at my Windows settings for VPN it asks for server name or address. I'm assuming that is for work related VPN assignments? Or would Bitdefender work better if it was attached to Windows settings manager?

Thank you for your time.

  • In short, bitdefender vpn uses the engine of hotspot shield vpn. No further information can be provided since that is limited to the company.

  • Hello @NewbyDood,

I can tell you about the encryption algorithm.

Bitdefender VPN uses the Hydra protocol on all platforms, 256-bit AES encryption or the highest available cypher supported by both client and server, with Perfect Forward Secrecy. This means that encryption keys are generated for each new VPN session and erased from memory when the session is over.

  • To add herer, Hydra Catapult is a protocol developed by AnchorFree (the company behind Hotspot Shield) to deliver blazing-fast download and upload speeds over a secure VPN connection.
