System Halt- Clash Between Previos Antivirus And Bd

Hi there!

While installation of BD trial I have no chance to choose to install only firewall and not antivirus etc., so after reboot it clashed with my earler installed antivirus Eset NOD32 and Lavasoft Ad-Aware.

The system is halting after several seconds after start - so I have no time either to remove BD, or change any setting of it because they are not appearing after right click of the mouse, also I could not be in time to turn off NOD32.

While entering in safe mode - the windows istaller is not working in this mode, so I also could not remove BD now.

For now I have only one idea - in safe mode to go to - Run -services.msg and then disable BD processes.

Are there any other options?

My second question - could I after the deistallation, install BD again and choose only firewall from BD pack to be installed and are there any settings during the installation - to exclude other security program files and folders to be examined by BD ?

My system is - logging Admin account- Vista Home Premium, BD trial, Eset NOD32, Lavasoft Ad-Aware.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello there,

I think you could try entering Safe Mode and then running System Restore to revert your computer to a normal functioning state. Should that fail, you can indeed disable the BitDefender services from starting and then uninstall it (the command is services.msc, I assume you meant that instead of .msg).

Unlike the previous version, BitDefender 2008 does not allow for customized installation of specific modules. The installer of BitDefender clearly states that you must remove all previous security software prior to installing BitDefender. On the other hand, I find it a strange combination to have NOD32 antivirus and the BitDefender firewall module. BitDefender's antivirus engine is at least as reliable as that of NOD32, so you can count on it and remove NOD32. If you really want to keep it though, a stand-alone firewall will be a lot better combined with NOD32 than any integrated one.

    Good luck. :)

    I removed it ok!

Next time I will install BD on PCs without any security programms.
