running bitdefender10 in safe mode

Is there a simple way to run BitDefender10 in Window's XP safe mode? I got a bug that BitDefender caught and denied access to, but couldn't get rid of. I tried running the command lines that Niels had posted on another forum for running BitDefender in safe mode, but it didn't work. I ended up downloading a competition (sorry) that ran in safe mode and it took care of the problem. I like BitDefender, but an easy way to run it in safe mode would be a plus. (don't worry guys, the competition is turned off....but I think I'll keep it around until I can figure out a way to run BitDefender in safe mode if necessary)

  • I owe Niels an apology. His command lines for running bitdefender in safe mode do work, just not on my computer the way he had written them. I hope he doesn't mind me putting them here, but here is Niels' command lines:

When you are in safe mode go to start, run,

at the run dialog box type cmd press enter.

    Then type %SystemDrive% press enter.

Type cd %ProgramFiles%Common FilesSoftwinBitDefender Scan Server press enter.

    Run bdc.exe.

To disinfect the infected files type the command:

    bdc /files /boot /arc /mail /log=bdcscan.log /fixed /dis

To quarantine the infected files type the command:

    bdc /files /boot /arc /mail /log=bdcscan.log /fixed /move /moves

To delete the infected files type the command:

    bdc /files /boot /arc /mail /log=bdcscan.log /fixed /del

I played around with this some more today, and found that my computer would not let me change directories from 'program files' all the way to 'bitdefender scan server' in one step. I had to change directories (cd) one step at a time (cd %ProgramFiles%, hit enter; then cd Common Files, hit enter; cd Softwin, hit enter; cd bitdefender scan server, hit enter) in order to get to where I needed to be to run the scan. So, long story short....Niels' command lines worked on my computer, I just had to take a little slower route to get there. Now if the programmers at for BitDefender would just come up with an easier way to run a scan in safe mode....................

  • I don't mind that you posted it here. Or you could also use the installation cd-rom which is also bootable. Reboot the installation cd-rom of BitDefender and reboot your pc. Then linuxdefender will start so you are also able to remove malware.

I agree with your suggestion you can place your suggestion in the feature request subsection of this forum.
