I'm Getting Port Scanned From Another Pc On My Home Network.

Hello, I am having a problem with Bitdefender 2012 Firewall detecting a port scan from another pc on my home network. The reported message is

A port scan detected. Local IP 192.168.1.1. Remote IP 192.168.1.102 Protocol:UPD. Action taken blocked.

The problem is that the first IP address is my router, and the second IP address is another pc on my own network. The PC which bitdefender is blocking access to is running bitdefender 2011, and I have a third pc on my network also running bitdefender 2011. I started receiving the messages two days ago when I changed the network configurations on the "attacking" pc to allow access to my PC by performing the following steps

------Bitdefender 2011 Firewall main tab ---> Settings ---> Troubleshoot

-------Under the firewall help wizard I selected the option "I am trying to access a computer in my home network and the action fails"

-------When the list was populated I selected my PC's IP address and the message read "Bitdefender is not configured to allow access to this PC. It is recommended that you allow access to to ther PC's on your own network. Do you wish to allow access to this PC?

------ I selected YES.

Immediately after that I began receiving frequent daily port scans on my own PC because of this. I have tried to configure bitdefender to stop the attacks but it isn't working. On my own PC which is running bitdefender 2012 I have done the following

Firewall ---> Advanced --> Adapter rules

Add zone --> Local Area Connection

From here I selected both 192.168.1.1 (This is my router) and 192.168.1.102 (this is the PC on my network which bitdefender thinks is attacking me) and also chose to allow.

On my second PC with Bitdefender 2011 I have done the following

Firewall --> Network --> Local Area Network

TYPE: Home/Office VPN: No Stealth: Remote Generic: Yes

From here I added the zones 192.168.1.1 (my router) and 192.168.1.101 (my own PC which is being attacked) and set permissions to Allow

None of this has resolved my problem, and when I go into the troubleshooting wizard on my second PC I can no longer disassociate my PC with permissive status, so it looks like this change is permanent. Ever since I've been getting port scanned about five to ten times a day, and it's really starting to bother me because I know these are false positives, and I won't turn off the port scanning protection just in case an actual attack should occur. Please help.

  • Hey there!! I just want to second this issue! I am facing the exact same problem and its been for days! Have you found a solution to this?

    Thanks!

  • I have not found a solution to the problem, however I have noticed that it only persists on my own PC. I'm getting an average of about 3-5 port scans every day with the source being my second pc, and this has been occurring for a week now. The other two PC's on my network have not received any port scan messages at all. The only difference between the three PC's is the Bitdefender client version. My PC is running Bitdefender total security 2012, whereas the other two PC's are both running Bitdefender total security 2011. It would appear the 2012 client is reporting a false positive to LAN port scans which the 2011 client is not. It's clear to me these are false positives so I'm just ignoring the pop ups for now, but I hope they can implement a fix soon because it's really annoying. I don't enjoy frequent daily pop ups so I'm hoping the issue is resolved soon.
