[resolved] Bis2013 And Blizzard Launcher
I have determined that I'm unable to use the Blizzard Launcher with BIS2013. More specifically, the launcher opens and checks the Blizzard servers for updates, but the game (Diablo 3) never starts. The launcher hangs at "updating tools [0%]" and the "Play" button never becomes active to launch a game.
I am suspecting this issue is similar (Parental Control module?) to the recently fixed iTunes and VMware issues. How can I confirm it?
I have numerous Blizzard items in the firewall (see attached image) as exceptions already. I can confirm that the issue is directly related to BIS2013 because I performed a full uninstall/reinstall as described here (by Christian). After uninstalling and rebooting, the Blizzard Launcher worked perfectly fine and the game loaded. After reinstalling, the game no longer loaded. So, I know the issue is a function of something related to BIS2013.
Christian (or others), any suggestion on how to remedy this item? Do I need to add an Antivirus exclusion?
Thank you!

Let me also point out that I had no issues running games/game launcher with BIS2012, so it is something unique to the 2013 product.

I'm having exactly the same problem and am hoping to hear a solution soon.
Thanks in advance for your solution Christian or others (and thanks for describing the problem so well golfe!)0 -
Hello
Please create exclusions for all those processes and let me know if your game is working properly.

I did this - Did not work for me. Any other suggestions?0 -
Christian (and others), adding exclusions did not work for me either.
Is this only happening with Diablo 3? I can imagine that this could be happening with other Blizzard games which use a launcher - such as World of Warcraft.
I added exclusions to the firewall and antivirus modules. I have attached images of the processes I added.
Looking forward to a solution for this item.0 -
Anything Bitdefender?

I have a similar problem. My launcher doesn't open so I have to use the wow.exe file instead of the launcher.

Sent a support ticket - Have not heard anything here or there. Anything Christian/Bitfinder?

I submitted a support ticket too. No response as of yet.

actually the problem is when you execute the launcher the agent.exe its not properly killed, if you kill it manually step by step actually the game starts but have to do it everytime you start the applications, this happens with wow too and teamspeak 3 client too. i hope to this get solved soon because become very anoying to do all the kill process. btw this never happened in 2012 so is there any option to rollback to 2012?

I'm having the same issue and yes I already put in the exclusions. Before I could kill the program and eventually after launching a few time it'll work but now it's not even launching.
Sometimes it will hang at updating tools, and sometimes it will redownload the patch and not launch after I click the launch button. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? This is really frustrating that a robust antivirus / security program can't work around a program launcher.0 -
I too have the same problem and have yet to see a reply from our hosts. I have tried all of the previously recommended fixes to no avail. Anyone have any luck yet?

Just wanted to add one more voice - I, too, added all the exclusions and still nothing. I hate that I have to choose between using good anti-virus software or running a particular piece of software (regardless of what the function of the software is. Just because I HAVEN'T run into this with something other than a game doesn't mean I WONT)
Hope there's a fix soon0 -
and still we dont have an answer... im getting bored of bis2013.... please rollback to 2012

Hello everyone
Welcome (back) to the forums!
First off all, I apologies for the delayed response and the situation created.
Please try this workaround and let me know if the situation is solved.
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...st&p=148077
Thank you in advance for understanding!0 -
Has anyone tested the proposed workaround solution yet?
As the original poster I should do it, but I'm on an extended business trip and unable to test this on my home computer.
Thanks!0 -
I wont have the chance until sometime tomorrow, but will post results once I have tested (unless someone else beats me to it)

Hello
No worries, please post here the results tomorrow.
I will wait for your answer.

This was, to put it mildly, an epic fail. " />
I followed your workaround, Christian, on not one but TWO Win7 64-bit machines*. Partly because if it worked, why not, and partly because this way I would have two test subjects (in case it worked on one and not the other). Sadly, it worked on neither.
Not only did it not work, it killed other programs AND internet connectivity. NOTHING worked. So I reversed everything I'd done and am back to the holding pattern (or switching back to the "other" antivirus program until the patch comes out for Bis2013).
If someone else tests this and it works, please post what you did (if anything) that was different from Christian's suggestions. Or maybe it just doesn't work on a 64-bit machine.
Anyway, back to work. Thanks for trying Christian.
*(one Digital Storm, one Alienware, both less than 6 months old, with all OS updates installed)0 -

VH, thank you so much for your attempt(s).
This information does not bode well for me attempting it - I use a Win7 64-bit system as well.
Is there anyone with a 32-bit system who can try "the workaround"?0 -

I updated Bis2013 to the newest version (per the ITunes thread) and voila! it works!! I ensured I had all the Windows updates installed as well, just fyi.0 -

Interesting. The iTunes thread was also mine. Which version of BIS2013 are you using? I have all Windows updates and BIS2013 16.16.0.1349. It is not working for me. Do you have exceptions to the Blizzard Launcher in firewall and antivirus? After the iTunes "fix", did you revert the update address back to the original address or did you leave it as http://upgrade.bitdefender.com/. I assume you mean the fix in this thread: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...35393&st=40 ??? After performing the iTunes fix, I reverted the address back to the default address: http://upgr-mmxiii.cdn.bitdefender.net/ - Maybe that is the issue?
I will attempt later depending on what I hear from you.
Any other information you can provide would be helpful.0 -
Golfe -
I left the updater address. I have build 16.16.0.1349 with virus signatures 7364677 and engine version 7.42963
I hope this doesn't mean this is a fluke and things will go back to bad tomorrow (or after reboot). I DID still have to manually stop the Diablo process (using task manager) when I wanted to restart the game without rebooting the computer, but that's a small thing in the grand scheme.
If things change, I'll add a post here, if anything occurs to you, please update here also.
Thx
P.S. I don't use ITunes so I don't know if that has anything to do with why yours isn't working0 -
Thanks for the information, VH.
I will attempt this "fix" on Wednesday. It sounds like the only thing I have different from you is that I reverted back to the default updater address. I will switch it back and see what happens.
Anyone else find it to be working?0 -
Golfe -
So I gloated too soon
Now Diablo doesn't work at all, no matter what I try. I'm using the "right" version of B1s2013 and back in a holding pattern waiting for a real fix. Maybe if I used ITunes I'd have more info to offer.
Sorry . . .0 -
Sorry to hear that.
It sounds like the workaround does not work - at least for 64-bit systems.
Anyone with a 32-bit system to try?
Christian? Thoughts?0 -
Okay, I've thrown in the towel for this one computer. I still use Bis2013 on other computers but this one is reverted to my previous antivirus solution. I'll reinstall Bis2013 if/when there's an actual solution.

I submitted a support ticket for this item 9-10 days ago, but have not heard any response. Where do I find my support ticket number?0 -

I submitted one two weeks ago - Nothing but crickets. I give up.0 -
I tried uninstalling Diablo 3, now I can't even download it without interference. Is there any way to turn BitDefender off so I install it. If you bought an online version of BitDefnender can you still get a refund? I don't see the point of keeping it if I'm already having problems after installing it one day ago.

Christian, any activity being taken by the staff at Bitdefender on this item? The "solutions" suggested in the thread do not work.
I have not heard any response back on my support ticket for more than two weeks.
Any news you can share is beneficial. Thank you!0 -
I've had these issue with Bitdefender Total Security 2012 as well.
What usually helped for me was to kill the Agent.exe Process of the Blizzard Launcher.0 -

Thanks Ruga. I will attempt to kill the agent.exe process once I have my computer available, which won't be for a couple of days. Even if it works, that is still a workaround and does not address the root cause of the issue.
I did not have this issue with BIS2012.0 -
There is a new update (16.18.0.1406) which includes a fix for Blizzard games. Hopefully, it solves your problem.
Change log: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry1516540 -
it mostly worked... teamspeak is correctly closing and diablo 3 too but world of warcraft launcher is still getting stucked and never get closed after you press the X

Hello
A product update was released. Your build should be 16.18.0.1406(please right click on Bitdefender icon from system tray-near the clock-and choose "About". You should see in the left side the build number).
In order for the product update to be installed, you need to reboot your machine(you should see in the Events -> "Reboot required" under the Update module).

Christian, golfe et al;
I have updated to the 16.18.0.1406 build and SO FAR (holding my breath) everything seems to be working. I'll jump back onto the forums if it seizes up again, but for now looks like I'm returned to being a happy Bis2013 user.0 -
VickeryHealth/Christian:
Great to hear it.
My computer is en route (temporary cross-country move) and I will be able to test the fix at the end of this week. I will post my results Friday or Saturday.

Hello
I am glad to hear that.
In 16.19.****** build, we will launch a major update for the Parental Control module and for those that don't use it, it will be deactivated automatically from the cloud.
Let me know if everything is OK with the latest update.

Hi Christian
I received my computer today and was able to test the Blizzard Launcher with build 16.18.0.1406.
I can confirm that this update has apparently corrected the issue. I tested it only once, but the application launched as expected and correctly. Thank you for your efforts.0 -
Hello
Thank you very much for your feedback!
We managed to solve this by making several changes to the Parental Control module.
All the details have been posted here:
