Why Silent Security?
What are the advantages of Silent Security?
Did you conduct any feedback survey before its implementation?
How can it accomplish the Advanced Users requirements?
I would like to invite all users to debate on this.

I think i prefer more for silent security..because nowadays..everything need to be simple, try to think,if every single event bit. need to prompt for your action, didn't you think it's horrible?I like "silent security" because I can do whatever online without interruption and at the same time, know that i'm always protected..{just my opinion},that's why its called security suite,it need to protect us,not to burden us..

You can have silent security and advanced settings at the same time. It's been there in the past (3 different user profiles) and I want it back.
I do not want a program telling me every time my system is operating as expected (similar to strong HIPS programs). I only want to be notified if there is a problem like malware detection, failure of the av service to start, failure of an update, firewall notifications, etc. I want to be in control of what happens. It's my computer, I should be the one to decide if need be. This is where the advanced settings are useful. I will never trust any av program to decide the fate of a particular file. I have seen too many botched security updates by other security providers where these updates have rendered systems useless due to program 'automatic' actions.
I will post more when I have more time.0 -
Agreed, the option for both, the set it and forget it option (my sister in mind), and some more of the advanced configuration options that Bitdefender used to have, and that some AVs still do have. I guess it could come down to what the sales force deems the highest return, an AV that will appeal to more of the masses, or to the dwindling herd of geeks, like us
Maybe it doesn't have to be so complex as to become bloatware (with all the requested feature add ons), but as to the implement ~1/2 doz. or so of are absolute favorites?0 -
Well, in my wife's PC it's set to Autopilot , in my PC it is in user mode.
I think this is a good way to satisfy everybody.0 -

In BDAV+2013, I don't see much of a difference between user mode and Auto Pilot. With the exception of a reboot, I have not had BD bother me at all. I have on-access scanning set to move files to quarantine and I have changed the setting to 'ask every time' when a usb device is inserted. I welcome this though because I want to make certain each usb is immunized. No virus in daily browsing to speak of. I have used eicar and MDL to throw some malware at it, but this is not normal use. Much of it is stopped before it hits my computer by the antimalware web filter and cloud.
If I used BDIS 2013, which I asked Christian to change to BDAV +2013, I certainly would like to see incoming and outgoing connections. I have my current firewall set to notify. Once this learning takes place, there is not much interaction unless you continuously install/uninstall new programs.
I just don't want any files deleted without my approval and I don't want any firewall rules created for programs without my knowledge. I have had firewalls automatically create rules for rogues and trust my judgement on what to allow. Sometimes, I have no clue though.0 -
The pilots using the Autopilot mode to travel from Australia to the U.S., i do not see why we would have doubt in the silent ally who is always on our side.

Me too agree, both option available to meet user requirements, but both especially user mode needs much improvements. Me to prefer user mode and vote for it however.0 -

Prompting for the action is not horrible rather the horrible situation is when you have too many infections and you have chosen "Take Proper Action" and it takes long time for completion. Some information is here Sequence Of Actions, Taking Proper Actions. Silent Security is useful only for the users who are not interested in what is going on in their systems and is not suitable for Advanced or more Technical Users. You can have silent security and advanced settings at the same time. It's been there in the past (3 different user profiles) and I want it back.

Bitdefender has Silent HIPS integrated, so you can called it SHIPS .
The Notifications/Pop-ups are classifies as Critical, Informative, Affirmative, Warnings etc. There should be separate settings for all of them as suggested here Separate Notification/Pop-up Settings For All Modules. Also the Advanced settings should have User Configurable HIPS like in the version 2011 and as discussed here Difference Between Ids And Hips?.
I agree with your statement "I will never trust any av program to decide the fate of a particular file", and that is where comes the User Configured product and the Silent Security is not demanded.
Like you I'm also interested in to know all the ins and outs of the system.Hello

I would like to hear from you on the third question in detail.
The user Mode is also silent to some extent. In my opinion the Silent Security should not be essential, rather there is selection between Silent Security and User Mode product or User Configurable product.0 -

By the way how did you conclude that? Wife is not a personal assistant and is not Silent as Bitdefender and also not configurable
My third question was "How can Silent Security accomplish the Advanced Users requirements"?0 -
ROTFL Thanks for the 3rd question clarification

I have nothing against AutoPilot. It is a great feature. You have to admit, it is not only silent but also very smart. If you look at some of the data, you will see from other security developers - low detection rates, many false positives, and excessive user dependent decisions. Bitdefender has the highest detection rates, low false positives, and makes the decisions for you. And also has one of the top rated cleaning routines.

Yes, and once they get (as they are pretty much resolving) the glitches taken care of, I can recommend this to family, especially my sister for the above reasons, as her security solution is going to expire this Nov. She depends on my referrals (which she then tells her friend, so, and so on), so for her, a stable running AutoPilot setting is going to be, "just the ticket" .0 -
I'm not against Silent Security or Auto Pilot Mode, but I suggest that the user should have some control over the product like in 2011 version alongwith AutoPilot Mode. So the user can select either mode according to his taste and skill level.

i hate the auto pilot mode i always use User Mode i like to take charge of whats happening on my pc how can i trust bit defender to do its job properly. Also i noticed when i open bitdefender the auto pilot button jumps from auto pilot to user mode when i open bit defender ,whats that all about.

Yes, for me personally, as I had previously expressed, that some of our favorites and Feature Requests would be great, especially better firewall control options.0 -
I would like to get more comments on this subject from the users.

Hello
I am not married.
And we are talking here about pilots and personal assistants and maybe 747 with cruse control " />
Have a great week!0 -
Having used BD2011 until last week, I'm already fed up with BD2013 after the first week. IDS killed Texmaker, when Texmaker just tried to ask me, wether I wanted to save my changes to a file before closing. Before that action, I was actively editing my research document and updating my thesis. Fortunatly I saved in between, so lost only some of the work. (And BD did not complain, while a saved manually).
IDS killed autorun.exe on some old Game-CD I just inserted, without waiting for me to confirm. It killed system services like fineprint, netdrive, bla, bla, bla. The list goes on and on. All that in Human-Mode and Standard-Setting. What kind of Autopilot is that?!? Only after I found "Paranoid"-Mode, I actually do have some choice to interact.
For a regular home user, surfing the I-net, using FB, ... this may be ok. But when working in a reaserch environment or as an advanced user, this is definitely no longer ok.
Btw.: Definition-Updates every 10-15 minutes?!? Each time my HD is busy for 5 minutes with the update and my work is blocked. With BD2011 at least I could change update intervals (3-5 hours is still good enough), now I can only turn auto-update off. Then I have to remember doing it manually. Not a really nice choice.
So, please, get me some choices back and I may return to BD. For now, it's either BD2011 (if I can re-install) or another ISS.
System: Duo P8600, 3GB, Win7 32. Not exactly brand new, but still doing a good job.0 -
Hello
I am not married.
So you are protected with Auto Pilot and Take Proper Action at present as you already mention in your signature. Since you can handle and made all the decision by your own.0 -

Hello,
I agree with ONT and I want to rephrase this :
...but I DEMAND that the user MUST HAVE TOTAL control over the product...
For me is UNACCEPTABLE to pay for an A/V & FW product that I have no or just some control, cause it has to do with my PRIVACY and my SECURITY.-

So we have the same thinking about the product design and usability.0 -
Of course we have the same opinion about this.
We have expressed that in many posts but we are either minority (I don't believe that) or they just ignore us.
So I've decided to wait for the expiration date (less than 3 months) and if nothing change I'll ignore them too, cause I'm tired to read silly answers by them.

I'm glad i listened to my brother. He is absolutely correct. Give it a couple days then you'll see pure trouble coming.0 -

You are right, I am also thinking the same. I try to request and posts many times in thread about the control over the product and also for better notification system and detailed logging, but even the users seems not be agree with this and don't respond in a +ve way.
Will send you PM for more detail.0 -
...but even the users seems not be agree with this and don't respond in a +ve way. ...
Hello ONT
Don't you think that an A/V forum is not the place for the...revolution?
Most users (citizens) are not interesting about what "others" make for them. They just pay (vote) for them, just to feel secure, while not actually be. This is what history and (especially) present teaches us. (A little bit political ha..?)
So, don't expect from users that they don't understand technical terms - and very rightly so - to response. What we should expect from the company we pay for it's product is to respect us improving this product and not making the all thing easier for them cause finally we know the way to punish them.
Thank you very very much for PM. It is very useful to me.

Just not able to correctly install MSI Kombustor 2.4, and all because, Bitdefender has not given me the opportunity to point out that in this program there are no viruses, you can check for yourself, try the MSI Kombustor 2.4, which is included in this package MSI Afterburner 2.2 .4.

Here is the log scan, I need to ignore these false definitions, but antivirus does not choose what to do, and this is very bad.

The Silent Mode like in 2011 should be present that is user selectable whether to set ON or OFF.

They are intentionally not giving replies to such suggestions. Bitdefender's developers have achieved the goal of optimum protection which results in top ranked security solution, I would like to suggest them now to consider "Advanced users" as well as the silent security is only for children and novice users.0 -
I wish that the new comer 2014 is not as silent and automated as the current product line ..... but there are more chance that my wish will never become reality.
