Update Reboot Blues
I updated from Bitdefender 2012 to 213 a week or so back. I like the new widget! Many times a day, it informs me, I receive updates, and some, but not all, of these require a reboot - something like 2 a day. Do these particular updates contain patches to the application itself as opposed to virus updates? Because if so, it would be infinitely better to roll them up into one rather than requiring multiple reboots. Whatever the cause, this constant requirement to reboot one's machine - which doesn't happen with any other security product I have experience of - is starting to get annoying. Like other people, I prefer to put my machine to sleep at the end of the day and only reboot once a week or so. I hope you are not going to advise me to uninstall and reinstall Bitdefender, because it didn't solve the problem for the other people you advised to do this. I think the problem is at your end and you need to get a hold.

Hi Walter, and welcome
The reboot issue should settle down from here out. It was just allot of previous updates to get us to the .1407 update, to prepare us for the 16.20. build fixes and features. So please hang in there, as I think we're past the multiple reboot phase. Here is a list of all that was resolved in the new build (thus also the reboot): http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=157184
Have a great weekend

I am also getting this problem, it needs rebooting 2 or 3 times a day, not very helpful. I am on build 16.20.0.1483 and it is currently asking for another reboot? is that what was expected? and is it going to stop after this one?0 -
Hi eps0n66, and welcome
I have both the 2013 AV+, and the Security Suite, and have not had the request to reboot since yesterdays build update. I have Postpone reboot set to "off" in update settings, so that I will visually get the pop up notification of a required reboot, and have yet to see one (I did also manually check the "Update Events" ) so I'm not sure what is happening in yours and Walter's case. Maybe someone else here will chime in on if they are having this issue, or of a resolve.

Hi Columbo,
I've rebooted again and so far it has not asked for another reboot. I am still on the same build version though so it is not clear to me why the reboot is required.
I'll keep my eye on it and re-post if it asks for a reboot again.0 -
Thanks for responding back, keep us posted, as I'm hoping it will settle down and get itself squared away

Unfortunately it is asking for a reboot again, apart from anything how come it thinks there are so many updates in a single day? I would have expected an update per day on average.
Of course since I don't know why it is asking for it I don't know whether it is critical or not, however, there is no way I am going to reboot the machine as often as it seems to want.
Virus signatures is 7580908
Engine version is 7.43363
I may reboot later to see if either of these changes ( I should have taken note of them before).
If any bitdefender staff are reading it is very annoying to have the product which is supposed to protect you start given very uncertain information.0 -
Auto Updates (signature) occur approximately every hour..but not reboots
0 -
I cracked and rebooted again, now I have engine 7.43365 and signatures 7581010 (if these increase sequentially then that's a lot of changes!). And guess what, it now wants another reboot, that makes about 5 today!

You are now where I am at. Even though you had the build version, it may have needed to install all the previous updates that were hitting us hot and heavy last week? I really can't say for certain, but if you need multiple reboots from here, something else needs to be considered.

And if it doesn't...settle down, we can all blame you and you will owe us a Beer! " />
All kidding aside, I was also getting the "occasional" reboot notice, but nothing to cry home about,
as every new product needs to get patched and updated, so all is well!
I like the idea that BD updates it's definitions, just like another product that we both use and that's just fine,
as there are some ****** people out there writing and deploying new malware, spyware, trojans, etc, etc, every minute of the day,
so if the AV/IS keeps on top of it all, the better it is!
FYI, I have 4 Definitions updates so far, today and not one reboot required!0 -
Hello
For those that receive the reboot prompts over and over, please sent me some logs so I can take a look.
Follow the steps explained in the article below and send me via PM the generated log file:
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=29927
If the file is too big to attach it, upload it on
or
and send me a PM with the download link.
If you were already asked to generate the log file, disregard the message above and just post the ticket ID.
Have a nice day.0 -
Hi all and good morning,
First thing this morning I had the "bitdefender services have stopped responding" so I rebooted, after the reboot I had build 16.20.0.1483, virus signature 7581816 and engine 743371. Now it is asking for a reboot and I have exactly the same versions of everything.
Christian, thanks, I will try to create the log and pm it to you.0 -
Hello
For some reasons, Bitdefender can not replace some of the older files and that's why you receive that reboot prompt.
I will send you a solution via PM in about 5 minutes.
Take care.0 -
I've just got build 16.21.0.1504 and still getting the "reboot" required. I don't think uninstalling and then re-installing is a very satisfactory solution (if that even works). I've just tried to pm Christian but it said that he wasn't accepting pm's. What's happened have they turned off the lights and disappeared http://forum.bitdefender.com/style_emotico...fault/angry.gif

Sadly this happens frequently. All AV packages seem to get criticised on customer service, and BD are REALLY missing out on not improving the rather poor level they offer.
I am also getting reboot required too often - 3 times so far today. It is getting way beyond time that the bugs in TS2013 were sorted out.0 -
Hi Stagedoor,
I've taken to simply acknowledging the event which says reboot required and then ignoring it, if not I'd be rebooting the machine every half hour. I can't understand why they don't know what's causing it and why they don't fix it.0 -
I'm getting the same thing (reboot required). I've rebooted at least 5 times so far today! " />

Hi Firecapt,
Yes, it's infuriating. It never happened to me with Internet Security 2012 and I still don't really know if it needs it but since Christian seems to think that uninstalling, cleaning the registry and re-installing would fix it (although I've read on other forums that it didn't) it must be a bug rather than a genuine need to re-boot. In any case I would expect it to be relatively simple to find and fix but heh, it seems not!
Add to that that my widget does seems to permanently sit in the background and cannot be used to go to events etc the product is not looking very professional.0 -
Hello
The issue is reproducing with the latest update?

Hi Christian,
Yes, it is still requesting reboots with the version 16.21.0.1504.
Any ideas?0 -
After many reboot requests yesterday, my BD stopped doing this today. Except for the USB problem all is now normal.

Sorry this post is of no help Firecapt, but just to say, love the Avatar

Christian,
Mine is also still requesting reboots with the version 16.21.0.1504.0 -
Hi all,
Mine is still doing it as of this morning (21 Sep) at 10:30 cet.0 -
If I reboot as soon as I see the notices, it happens about every 45 minutes. I noticed that the file 'asblurl.dat' is installed twice. Could one of these be an old build that was mistakenly left in the install package?

Hi,
And so it continues, 23 Sept reboot required. I've effectively reduced the number of requests by marking them as read and so it only asks when I do actually have a reason to reboot the PC. If I didn't do this the PC would be unusable, needing to tbe rebooted, as you say, every 45 mins or so.
Come on guys help us out here and get this sorted......please.0 -
It seems that I have been able to overcome the problem by performing a manual weekly update. I did this last night prior to retiring. I have had 5 updates so far this morning without any requiring a reboot.
0 -
Once I have marked the "reboot required" as read other updates complete normally without requesting a reboot. Whether this is because the system thinks it has already requested one and does not continue to do so or whether it is because the other updates do not think they require a reboot I don't know. The problem comes if I actually let it do a reboot and then it will surely request a reboot within 45 mins or so of coming back up.
BrianR777 if you do a reboot what happens?0 -

Christian,
Any feedback you and the team have about this issue? The program continues (daily) to alert me to restart the computer.0 -
I see we have another build update to version 16.22.0.1534! Be interesting to see if we still get the continuous reboot to replace all files?

Good Luck! To me, i don't trust any of the updates because it will eventually fail within couple days, by past experience. They will have to work harder to earn my trust again.0 -
I'm on 16.22.0.1534 and the problems continue for me, it seems that the guys at Bitdefender don't really care about this issue, they used to post about it but seem to have even abandoned that. I came to Bitdefender after KIS and am wondering why!

Exactly, look at my post above. New build does not mean it could solve the problem. That's what bitdefender team have been saying and good at "it will solve the next product update" they just want to say that so you can wait for weeks and weeks. I will never trust bitdefender whatsoever no matter what they say.0 -

I found the same. After rebooting, the alert needed marking as read or deleting, then no more rebooting was needed.0 -

Just updated to 16.22.0.1534, and have had to reboot 3 times so far and I have a notice to do it again!
I'm just going to ignore till I find a time that I can do a restart, and hope that I'm not going to have any problems with BD.0 -
I'm on my 5th reboot and it still wants to do it again.

for the last 2 days I am also now suffering from the reboot blues. Seems to have started after update to version 16.22.0.15340 -
It seems to me, it is connected with reputation technologies, but this is how they work, I can't get from the developers.

Is there anyone out there in BD land?
Need to know if this is going to continue? and if so I'll need to check other programs.0 -
I'm on my 8th reboot of the day and now I see another request.
PLEASE BD CAN'T YOU FIX YOUR PROGRAM ONCE AND FOR ALL SO THAT ALL OF THESE BUGS GO AWAY? " />0 -
Could you let us know what "repair" action is.
Don't know about it and would love to use it.
I got to restart the computer as I now have another update 2nd one for today.
Hi ruffus
I believe the repair action mentioned by FiL is the default Bitdefender 2013 repair, which can be done the following ways:- In Windows 7 go to, All Programs/Bitdefender expand the folder and click on the Repair or Uninstall option.
- Or go to Control Panel/Programs and Features, click on Bitdefender Uninstall, and it will give you a pop up window to Repair or Remove.
Hope this helps

Want to add a thank you for the info. tried it yesterday and just looking to see if I still have the problem.
I seems to me that someone before would of said this fix and we would not have all this crap.
thanks again0 -
I haven't carried out the 'repair' option but the reboot requests seem to have stopped coming anyway.

I tried to fix the update notifications by performing a "repair" as described above. It did not fix it for me. Maybe I should try a complete reinstall?0 -
Hello
Please use the uninstall tool posted here:
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=35804
Reboot when prompted and then install the product using these instructions:
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?act...f=312&id=53
Let me know if everything is OK now.
