Hello labonno_ny,
txToll.dll is NOT a file that belongs to BitDefender. Are you sure BitDefender is reporting this file as missing? Because I do not have it on my system, and my BD Total Security works just fine.

Dear labonno_ny
This must be a leftover of an already deleted infection. This just a random name. Go to start, run, type msconfig press enter click on start up and see if you can find a reference to txToll.dll if present uncheck that entry. After you have done that check also start, programs, start up. Go to start, run, type regedit press enter expand hkey_local_machine and open the following folders and subfolders: software, microsoft, windows, currentversion, run at the right side look for an entry that is called txToll.dll delete only that entry.
Best regards

@labonno_ny: In addition to what Niels said: maybe it would be a good idea to post here a HijackThis! log. It might contain some info about this.

I know what you are referring to and I have the same problem with the same failed result. Actually the error message is "bdcom.exe - unable to locate component" in the title bar and the text is "this application has failed to start because Txtools.dll was not found.....etc."

Hello Chief and labonno_ny,
After talking to TechSupport, I got the full assurance that neither txtools.dll, nor txtoll.dll, are files related to any BitDefender product versions.
Also, while I was talking to TechSupport, I also noticed this:Actually the error message is "bdcom.exe - unable to locate component"
The file bdcom.exe is NOT a part of the BitDefender products. In previous versions, the interface of BitDefender was named bdmcon.exe, but this file was removed in BitDefender 2008 series (now, the interface is bdagent.exe).
So I guess this is either a malware, trying to mask itself as BitDefender (this is not the only attempt...there are also malware which place themselves as bitdefender.exe in c:\Windows), either this is about a 3rd party application that you both use.
My suggestion remains: please (both of you) post a HijackThis! log. Also, look in your computer for the application called bdcom.exe, put it in a ZIP archive (with the password infected) and send it to me through PM, or attach it to a new thread in the Malware section.

Update:
txtools.dll is a file that existed in previous BitDefender v10 series (at least in BD v10 IS). Did you have BDv10 installed before you installed BD 2008? If yes, did you uninstall it (using the BD Uninstall Tools) before installing BD 2008? If you didn't, I recommend using the Uninstall Tool now, make a complete removal of BitDefender and then reinstall it.
Please post if this solves your problem.

I had the same problem.
Looked into startup tab from msconfig and found an old reference to bdmcom in SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
Removed that one solved the problem.0
