Hello
Did you tried the tool posted above? Do you receive an error?

ok sorry to say it, but the application is not signed (unknown publisher, nice go for an antivirus company) and why this nonsense to change my internet homepage ?
Ohw and just to inform you, this "solution" doesn't work with IE 10.0 -
Hello
The cleaning routine is putting that blank page on your browser to clean homepage hijacks. Is unethical to actually set that page to bitdefender.com or google.com/microsoft.com.
For IE 10, the following reg file should solve the issue. Please save it on your Desktop and double click on the homepage.reg. Click Yes when prompted.

Hello, it was not possible to change reg key "Start Page" (key was blocked even with everything disabled / off) . After uninstalling Bitdefender it was possible again.

And after a few days, it's back to "about blank" again....

Thank you!
I'll hijack this thread or start another one if you want. I'm having exactly the same problem. Win7 64 bit using IE9. It's OK for a couple of days after reinstall then resets it to about:blank from www.google.com. I have tried the tool to reset it and other tips from other users but nothing saves the changes I make and when I reload IE9 the first homepage is about:blank. Please fix this.0 -
Hello,
After using the evaluation copy to all content, I purchased Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 (5 pc license). Installing on the first pc went easy, but after the 1st systemscan I discovered I too can't set a homepage. I allways get "about;blank". I tried all the above solutions, but nothing helped.
Any suggestions?
I run different OS and IE versions, but on this one I run Windows XP with IE 8.
On the other pc's (3 of them running W7) I haven't tried Bitdefender yet (and perhaps never will).
Thanks

Hi Christian,
I tried it a couple of days ago, but it didn't help then. Now I retried it AND IT WORKS!
I will try Bitdefender on one of my W7 pc's this evening.
Thanks,
Willem0 -
Well, it worked until now but I get "about:blank" again and the fix in post #2 (SetHomePageIEforXP.exe) doesn't help anymore. " />
Any suggestions?0 -
Okay, now I get an "about;blank" on a Win7 machine also and the fix in post #2 doesn't help.
I'm getting fed up with Bitdefender and if there isn't a DEFINITE fix for this problem very soon, I'll stop using Bitdefender and will ask my money back, as Bitdefender is seemingly not able to produce a program that runs without any problems.

Had this issue on another machine. Gave up with support. Less then helpful. I don't think they know how to fix this issue!0 -
This issue already exist a long time and they don't do anything to patch it. They should release an update to fix this but all they do is suggest obsolete programs that should be fixing the mistake they did in the first place. I feel me abbandoned, just now that i was about to purrchase licences. Shame really. I will unrecommend it to everyone. " />" />" />" />

As my Bitdefender software also blocks access to my CD/DVD unit on my laptop, I uninstalled Bitdefender this weekend on it and am now using AVG Free for the time being. I will also uninstall it on my other 4 pc's / laptops and will contact the seller for a refund. As the seller is Dutch and Dutch Law applies, I have all the confidence I will get the refund.
Of course, I'll unrecommend Bitdefender to everyone.0 -
After reading this thread, and trying the tool (which did not work), I have to say I am ready to ask for a refund. The support here is almost non-existant for a problem reported months ago. I have been using Bitdefender for over a year, and this home page problem just started - so it was introduced by Bitdefender AFTER I have successfully used the software, and there is no apparent fix that works!
I am using Windows 7 x64 and IE 9.
What I noticed that does work, is adding other home pages - both that fail as the first home page, but are OK if they are listed 2nd, 3rd, etc. So, whatever security Bitdefender thinks it is providing by not allowing this change in home page, it allows it as any subsequent page in the list and tabs in IE 9.
Message to Bitdefender support - improve the level of support and expertise or risk losing another customer.0 -
Please fix!!!!!!!

Do we have a fix yet? I would rather turf Bit Def than lose my home page. There must be a reason not all users are experiencing this issue?

Hello all,
As you might have already noticed from the topic name, we have submitted your request to the product manager.
Please remember that due to security reasons, whenever Bitdefender cleans an infection that hijacks your browser it will reset your Internet Explorer settings so there can be no traces left from the infection. Therefore, the only way to make sure the disinfection routine was successful is to reset the homepage and search engine, preventing this way future infections.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Have a great and malware free weekend!0 -

I am having the same issue.
I am running IE9 with a 64 bit windows 7 machine.
The fix worked a couple of weeks ago and now it doesn't work.
Extremely frustrating.0 -
I have the same issues on IE 10 (Win 7 64 bit) and I change my home pages in the options section and the first always defaults to a Blank tab but my second and third works ok, you can just ignore it but when Google is your home page so you can use the search function its a pain to have a blank home page. I have tried all the ideas posted and none work. this has only happened in the last 4 weeks. if this is not sorted then I will not renew when my year is up.

This is just not good enough! Most Anti Virus programs allow you input your preferred Homepage and it will make sure Viruses/Spyware cannot change them but Bit Defender has omitted this functionality.
I am currently reviewing Bit Defender 2013 for a well known UK based Computer Magazine with over 4 millions monthly subscribers. My review is going to reflect this omission unless Bit Defender come up with a solution before we go to press next week (July 20th).
I am also surprised by the lack of support on this issue and this will also be reflected in my article.0 -
Hello tenbyboy,...I am currently reviewing Bit Defender 2013 for a well known UK based Computer Magazine with over 4 millions monthly subscribers...
If your above statement is true and if you really want to be reliable, a little search on this forum will be very enlightening for you and your readers, about the quality of BD company/products and of course about the fine quality (see, absolute lack) of support.
Regards!0 -

All the tools and tricks here didn't work for me.
We are using Endpoint Security 5.3.1.335.
What seemed to work is really simple - just boot up in Safe Mode, go to IE, change the start page and reboot - and the start page stays also in normal mode.
I just did that - let's see how long this one works, but I hope it's a long term solution. You might give it a try.0 -
Same problem here and none of the above work. Windows 8.1 with IE11, Bitdefender Internet Security 2014... ABOUT BLANK, cannot edit registry with product disabled etc. Any help would be most appreciated.
Very disappointed that this is so hard to resolve...0 -
Its happening again. Why cant Bit defender? Seriously we pay money to lose our home pages? This has been a problem for YEARS. I will not be renewing again unless this crap is fixed.
Now here is my info:
Win 7 Home premium 64-bit
IE 11
2014 BitDefender Antivirus Plus0 -
Still a problem as of today. Just installed Bitdefender and now I'm having this issue.
Several points of concern:
1) The fact that Bitdefender reps on this thread repeatedly imply (in a cut and paste from this page) that the unwanted homepage removal action follows the "cleaning" of an infection and is therefore inconvenient but ultimately desirable behaviour. I have installed Bitdefender on a clean PC and yes, the BD system scan has run, but it removed my IE homepage despite finding no infection, so the infection cleaning line is a total red herring. Why?
2) My IE homepage was set BEFORE installing Bitdefender, so Bitdefender has simply removed a legitimate homepage from a clean PC on a new install.
3) As Willows has stated above, ADDITIONAL home page tabs are left unchanged so this apparent "security" feature doesn't even do what it says it will. Any malware could set multiple homepage tabs that Bitdefender would leave untouched.
4) The requirement to download and run unsigned code to "fix" this simple problem and then to find the code doesn't even work is just insulting, especially given this has been a known problem for almost TWO YEARS.
This is very poor and, going by the date of the first post on this thread, Bitdefender doesn't seem interested in providing a fix. Since I only use IE for ONE website (my employer's OWA webmail which doesn't provide rich UI features in other browsers) I very much rely on the IE homepage being left alone. I think I will be uninstalling Bitdefender.0 -
Hi,
as of today 18th March 2015 the problem does seem to be still the same.
It is not possible to change the homepage in the first tab but only on other tabs.
This thread was started in 2012. Next month it would be the 3rd anniversary and yet not a fix.0 -
I'm new to Bit Defender, and am using the GravityZone Cloud version, but am seeing the same issue.
My laptop is clean, no infections found, however my homepage (page hosted on-site and in trusted sites) keeps getting cleared out. Several times now, no reason.
I will NOT go to every endpoint and run a special tool to configure the homepage (which seems to fail anyways according to other posts).
I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro.
If this cannot be fixed, I am demanding a full refund. This issue is unacceptable.0 -
Hello Bennett,
You are in the wrong forums here and will get a better answer from the Bitdefender Gravity Zone forums.
