SIMPLE FACTS
FACT- I have a brand new computer that was functioning perfectly prior to the installation of BitDefender.
FACT- I purchased and installed BitDefender Internet Security v10 and it failed to function properly.
FACT- I upgraded to BitDefender Internet Security v11 and it failed to function properly.
FACT- I asked many, many times for help from BitDefender Technical Support and that failed to work properly.
FACT- I asked people on this forum for help with my BitDefender problems and that too failed to work properly.
FACT- After 4-MONTHS OF FAILURE WITH BITDEFENDER and BitDefender Support, I unistalled BitDefender and installed an alternate antivirus program.
FACT- My computer, NEW antivirus, antispyware, firewall and antispam programs all run flawlessly.
Knowing these simple FACTS, I think it is pretty darned obvious where the fault lies.
FACT- BitDefender installed = FAILURE
FACT- BitDefender uninstalled = SUCCESS
I think these simple FACTS speak for themselves!
BitDefender users and potential BitDefender customers can read the FACTS in these threads and decide whether it's worth taking the chance with BitDefender or not!
For Pk77- I have a new VISTA computer and Alwil AVAST! works perfectly right from install.
For buridan- AMEN brother!
It's pretty darned obvious that BitDefender DOES NOT/CANNOT support their BUGGY SOFTWARE or the volunteers on this forum and has nothing more to offer the dissatisfied customer, so I'll do the SMART THING and toss BitDefender in the trash can and bid you all adieu.
Cheers

Exeperience may be a lot different, but v10 and v11 not working... hope you never get infected with your new perfect working Antivirus Program.
Ah security forum on-line are full of people infected, i suggest you don't ask what antivirus they use.0 -

Dear Pk77,
You sound like a little kid with a chip on your shoulder!
I am a 50-year old man whom has been playing with computers since Windows 3.1.
I have probably used 25 different antivirus programs from around the world, both FREE and paid services. Some were good, some not so much. Some still exist and many are long gone.
I've been around the block a time or two over the years.
I have always layered my computer protection to varying degrees and I have been infected only twice over the years.
NO SINGLE PRODUCT, not even your precious Romanian BitDefender can prevent all infections, that's why I like to use several products from different companies to build my protection. What one product misses, another will usually detect. It's a matter of balancing the strengths and weaknesses of each product.
NO, I DO NOT RUN MORE THAN 1 ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM! That practice went out during the Win 95 years.
But I do run multiple antimalware programs. And they all run flawlessly with each other and with AVAST!.
BitDefender didn't want to co-operate with my operating system, never mind with other antimalware programs! " />
Alwil AVAST has been in the antivirus business since 1988 and I feel that they have a pretty reasonable idea about how to provide their services/products. I didn't just spin the wheel and choose AVAST!, like I did with BitDefender. I learned that lesson very fast!
I visit many of the tech forums and most of the techs seem to use KAV, Nod32, Avira and AVAST.
Many seem to feel that the free antivirus programs are every bit as good as the paid programs.
I have noticed that NONE of the techs on the other forums use BitDefender or Panda.
If Bitdefender Tech Support or the volunteers on this forum had offered me some kind of solution to my problems, I'd probably have kept BitDefender. But, all I got from BD Tech Support was SILENCE and after 1/3-year my patience finally wore thin. I got fed up because no one here was able to help me, so I chucked my 2-year/2-PC BitDefender license in the can, cut my losses and I moved on to another product. *Shrug* It was just another learning experience.
There are LOTS of other antivirus products out there to try.
Windows XP Pro SP-2 is a very hard act to follow! But, if you think back, XP was a horrendous piece of crap until M$ released SP-2. Then XP really began to shine.
VISTA has only been out a year now and hasn't even received SP-1 yet, so how can anyone expect miracles?!?! VISTA is still the new baby on the block.
Hopefully VISTA will walk the same path as XP. We shall see.
I've had more than my 15-minutes on the soapbox. See ya later.
Cheers

P.S.- Oh, one last thing... Profit isn't always the motivator of companies. Some companies really do care about their customers and that they put out a good/reliable product with good support.
When customers are happy and you put out a good/reliable product with good support, people are happy come back for more of the same.
At least that's how it works here in Canada.0 -
I visit many of the tech forums and most of the techs seem to use KAV, Nod32, Avira and AVAST.
Avast? This is not the true, and i think/hope you know that. About 90% of people infected in the web are AVG or Avast users.
It's true that KAV, Nod32 and Avira are excellent produts in many case chosen by tech.
I think that all the forum now know that you don't like Bitdefender Products, as i said experience may be different, and feedback too, but you never see me in Avast forum crying for lack of support or protection.
Ok, you have made your choise, if you are happy with that, and you have told us your sad exeperience with Bitdefender, there are no more reason to continue.0 -

I meant the rule of being polite..
Yes, it is kinda personal, but I wasn't strictly speaking about you, because there were also other users that gave us a hard time (you might wanna read THIS topic, just for the fun of it ).
However, I didn't mean and act of dis-respect and I believe I was as polite as I can be. Maybe you just misunderstood what I wanted to say. What I meant is this:
I like helping out users in any way I can (and this is not the only forum which I visit and try to post solutions to someone else's problems), but when some users come on this forum and just stick with their idea (however WRONG the idea is) and it's absolutely nothing that me or someone else can do to convince you other wise, I really regret that I chose the position of being a Moderator here. If i wasn't a Moderator, I could just simply ignore this argument and move on (just like I do on other forums)...but being a Moderator gives me the responsability to post here and deny the false facts (so other users won't take them as granted, and just believe something because nobody else denied it).
And YES, I'm talking about the discussion from this topic. I'm not denying that you had problems, and I'm not denying that you couldn't get help about them. But I am denying that BitDefender is 100% crap (as you said). And the reasons are already posted.I did and still do that tha spam thing ahd two different sides.. Ok for one poster, while the other gets a warning..
Nobody got any warning for SPAM (except real spammers, which are plenty on this forum ). All I did was to close the other topic.
It's one thing to open a topic and to complain about something (in this case, BD Support), but opening a topic just to say that BitDefender ###### and <something else> works perfectly, that is not allowed. What would happen if all users of one product would go on the competitors' forums and post topics like this? It would be just chaos, wouldn't it?
Also, Povertee...related to your first remark ("Don't you consider the above statement somewhat personal"), just read below...in my opinion, that is worse than my statement.
Dear Pk77,
You sound like a little kid with a chip on your shoulder!

Orphan, nobody denies your experience.
But if you are so experienced as you say, don't you agree with what I said in my previous post (about applications incompatibilities)? If you don't, then you don't have so much experience as you say you do.I learned that lesson very fast!
Well...it took you 50 years to learn that you should visit a product's official page and to learn that you should first use a trial before buying (please take this only as what it is: a joke. It's not, under any circumstances, a matter of dis-respect).

It's the exact thing I tried to avoid when I said don't start arguing about how Vista is much more improved than Windows XP.
It doesn't matter how good is Vista, and it doesn't matter how good it could get! You totally missed my point.
What I was trying to say was: everyone said Vista was a mess, yet it worked just fine to you (I assume it worked fine, since you kept using it). This is the exact same situation with BitDefender, except it's the exact opposite: a lot more users say it works just fine, and only a few users have problems! And yet, you still say that BitDefender is crap. How come you have this reaction? Nobody stole anything from you, and nobody forced to buy it. Why are you so turned against BitDefender and say that it's totally worthless, when you are one of the exceptions, one of the unfortunate cases in which BitDefender doesn't work! As I said, it's not a general matter! and please understand this.

well, sometimes some preinstalled/modified O.S. modified by PC/NB vendor(HP,Siemens,Sony, etc ) ######, so it's better to reinstall windows and then install BitDefender... By my point of view doing so U'll finally get rid of problems

Hi all, I have just done as advised and carried out my 30 day trial of BitDefender - I agree very good practice - and it is working just fine. So good in fact I just purchased a license, got access to the forum and am somewhat surprised (well maybe not) at all the negative vibes. I work for an IT company in Customer Service, I have been in IT CS now for at least 25 years, and poor service irritates the crap out of me because I (and my employer) don't get away with it, and I don't see why others should.
I am running bd on my ancient 900Meg P3 workhorse, significantly upgraded, running XP Home, and it works like a dream. Let me tell you why I switched from Norton, and my experiences. I have had my frustrations with Norton (since it hit the big time and got swallowed up by Symantec, before that it was just superb) and spent many hours in past years trying to fix up it because it had not registered that I had paid, uninstalling, re-installing, and generally throwing the pc across the room. But I couldn't be bothered to change it because of the hassle. Then they has the brass cheek last month to tell me when I came to renewal that they would take my payment details and automatically renew each year WITHOUT MY FURTHER AUTHORITY! Of course, I could delve into their website and disable this but ... I have been there before and I simply didn't believe it would be that easy. And Norton (AV 2004) also seemed to be chewing up a lot of my ageing PC's resources - so - sharp practice - Norton had to go.
I turned to McAfee who we use at work and seems pretty OK , but their trial (buried on their US website only, not advertised or available in Europe) failed miserably and wouldn't register properly (network errors). I emailed their support and they answered a week later apologising and saying that these errors happened sometimes and could I try again? Having already tried at least 10 times over 3 days I wasn't in the mood so McAfee were gone.
Next was AVG. I tried the trial version which installed and registered OK but my PC almost ground to a halt when I put it into operation. Thats AVG gone. I didn't know what else was out there so simply Googled my requirements and got some good reports of bd - I had not even heard of it until a month ago. After installation it doesn't seem to chew up my limited resource, successfully sorted out a serious spam problem which had recently cropped up on my email address, found a couple of viruses which Norton had missed and has worked flawlessly ever since. Thats the way I like PC apps, install it and use it. Thats been my experience so I will recommend it - but only for those of us sensible enough to be running XP.
Oh - and I don't plan to upgrade to Vista for at least 6 months (remember I work for an IT company and I know how these things work) by which time bd and Vista will I am sure have sorted out their differences. No wonder they call it the 'bleeding edge'. I guess if it wasn't for the early users us luddites would never appreciate the debugged product. " />0 -
MORE OBSERVATIONS....
Hi all,
I just wanted to touch base and let you know that all of the finger-pointing and disparaging remarks made by volunteers and various posters about VISTA, made me very curious.
Could VISTA really be that bad?
As stated in my last post, I have been trialing Alwil Avast (FREE version) and I'd like to report that I have had ABSOLUYTLEY NO PROBLEMS with the installation, compatibility with CCleaner, Superantispyware, Windows Defender and Windows Firewall.
Avast also uninstalled/re-installed flawlessly!
Avast has run flawlessly on my VISTA HOME PREMIUM machine and has caused ZERO problems!
Side Note: Avast reported that I had a corrupt .dll file and this problem has been corrected.
Why didn't BD report this problem???
To further satisfy my curiosity, I uninstalled Avast and I am currently trialing a FREE 6-month demo of Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Premium. (Paid version)
Avira AntiVir also installed flawlessly, runs flawlessly with my additional antimalware products and uninstalls/re-installs flawlessly on my VISTA HOME PREMIUM machine. Again, ZERO problems!
After trialing these three antivirus products, I believe I have found the answer to my question.
Only BitDefender I.S. 2008 caused any problems on my VISTA HOME PREMIUM machine.
Both Avast and Avira have been completely compatible and run PERFECTLY on my VISTA machine!
I have no doubt that BitDefender v.10 has worked/does work very well on most XP machines, but I maintain that BitDefender 2008 is not up-to-snuff for any Micro$oft operating system, especially VISTA! " />
Just My Humble Opinion of course..
I will be sticking with Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Premium for the full 6-month FREE trial and I plan to report my experiences back here at that time.
Good luck to those of you whom are experiencing problems with BitDefender 2008 and BD Tech Support! (or lack thereof)
Cheers

Post in Avira forum your feedback, i'm still using Bitdefender total security with no problems but for sure i'll not post my good impression in others forum else than here.
Good luck to those of you whom are experiencing problems with BitDefender 2008 and BD Tech Support! (or lack thereof)
Good Luck at you, my pc probabily will remaign free of virus and other bad things...0 -
Very interested in the comments as I am trying to find the solution to my problem with BD Internet Security 2008. Having been a very satisfied user of BitDefender Professional v8 and v9 (never having to consult support) I was more than happy to install IS 2008 as a trial version. The OS is Windows XP Home with SP2.
No problems were encountered during the trial and for a further 2 months the program worked without any problems. However, that came to an abrupt end in mid December following an update. The control panel indicated that most features needed fixing eg real time protection, firewall, stealth mode and identity control were disabled. Despite clicking the fix button nothing happened. The program was uninstalled and reinstalled several times but to no avail.
Support were emailed and they simply suggested reinstalling. I replied (13th December) saying this had been tried but got no further response. I have again this week raised the issue via email (attaching sysdump.tar and FileInfo2008.exe, as before) and was told to uninstall Spybot (a program that was up and running when IS 2008 was initially installed). I have tried this but it has not solved the problem. I have got back to support and am awaiting a further reply.
No other AV, firewall, etc programs other than Spybot have been in use at any time so it is not down to a conflict there. I have become a very disillusioned and disatisfied user of BitDefender and am now researching alternative programs. Whilst doing this, a further problem seems to have come to light. In a review of BD Internet Security 2008, the reviewer referred to problems with Outlook Express crashing since installing the program. This happened to me and prompted me to use a trial version of Outlook.
Since reading that review and with IS 2008 uninstalled, I have tried Outlook Express several times and it is now working perfectly so maybe there is a conflict with that program. I mentioned this to my son who remarked that he had encountered the same problem with Outlook Express since installing a copy of BitDefender on a lap top a couple of weeks ago.
Maybe there is a simple answer but support do not seem to have it and given the fact that I do not have hours to spend trying to solve the problem, a new program may be my only choice.0 -
Update...
Just want to let everyone know that while many folks here continue to find solutions for problems and bugs in BD v.11, AntiVir PE Premium has performed flawlessly on my Vista Home Premium 32-bit machine. I have had ZERO need to contact the company and ZERO need to use their Help forum. AniVir gets along very well with Vista's firewall, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner and all other software installed on my machine. To date, I've not had a single problem!
On another note, here is an interesting article about using Symantec's uninstaller tool...
Symantec uninstaller may not finish the job

Cheers and GOOD LUCK!
