Usb/flash Drive Conflicts Bitdef 2008
hello there, i am hamxa, and here to report a SERIOUS PROBLEM with the bitdefender products (Total Security 2008& Internet Security 2008)... i have tried both your products mentioned here, and they work great BUT both of them have a severe security breach!!! i.e. when i insert my flash drive (Creative MuVo TXFM 512 MB), the real time scanning abruptly terminates(without any notification) and this i figured out by checking the 'FileZone' bar as well as the EICAR test file !!! the realtime protection quits until the system is restarted.... it might also be noted that this is not the case with the kingston flash drives, that work just fine no matter what,,,, i have tried un/reinstalling your products, reformating my flash drive, even changing the filesystem form fat32 to fat, while i was evaluating your product, but no use...(Also that all the bitdefender services are 100% functional, and yet the realtime protection is inactive!) i must also mention that i consider my level of expertise to be quite advanced in terms of computers and hardwares, with a lot of troubleshooting skills too... point is i've tried my best to see if it was some lapse at my side but hate to say,,,no... here is the complete detail of the machine i am running bit defender total security(build 11.0.15) on...
Windows XP pro (32b)
Pentium M 1.7 GHz
400 MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache
Acer Notebook with 768 MB of ram.
60 GB hard drive.
also that my usb drivers are completely functional and no compatibility issues have been observed b/w the USB interfacing with other softwares....
previously i have been a fan of norton products( was running NIS-2007), but it disappointed me this year when vundo attacked.... this product of yours felt real good, but the solution to this anomaly is inevitable living in a corporate culture... please advise, AWAITING, HAMXA.

it is to report that bitdefender 2008 (internet + total security, build 11.0.15 )are not compatible with certain usb flash drives...tried with mine (Creative Muvo) on 3 different windows(XP) on 2 different systems(Centrino and a pentium III)... there certainly is nothing wrong with the underlying hardware or operating systems i am running bitdefender on... it is BitDefender Solely responsible for this svchost.exe error (0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000... ) upon inserting the flash drives on any port(s).. it just doesnt end here, but the bitdefender's real time scan is totally terminated (checked various times with the EICAR test file, also with the real time file zone scan graph that goes blank the instant the flash is inserted and this svchost error emerges !!!) please awaiting support form ths forum...

Hello hamxa_tahir,
I used some USB sticks on my computer, and I never experienced this issue. However, I have no idea what brand were those sticks.
The BD Realtime protection stops after the svchost.exe error, because the engine is ran by an instance of svchost.exe, and the error you see might actually be the BD error.
The problem is... I don't think you can get much more help on this forum, because the BitDefender Evangelists are just volunteers. If you need urgent support, please contact LiveAssistance.
Cris.
P.S.: I merged your 2 topics, since they were about the same thing. Please don't start multiple thread about the same problem. I assure you that all posts are read by us, and the reason why you don't get an answer is either that we don't know the answer to your question (and we have to ask TechSupport, since WE (the BD Evangelists) don't work for BitDefender), either we are not available and don't have time to post immediately (also, because we don't work for BitDefender, so we might have other important things to do besides moderating this forum).0 -
thanx fr yr assistance... and sure no more redundancy !
