Windows Security Center
I uninstalled Bitdefender Free using the uninstall tool and Bitdefender Free still shows as active and up to date in Windows Security Center. I have tried several times even in safe mode and it still shows in the security center.

It might be that the Antivirus wasn't successfully uninstalled. Please try the uninstall tool in the topic above.

It might be too late for you; but I noticed the same/similar issue (note: I'm using Windows XP SP3)...
Since having 'BD AV Free' installed, I had installed 'Ad-Aware 11 Free' (uses BD AV engine), and very recently (yesterday) I uninstalled Ad-Aware, and then installed 'Avast! Free AV'.
After installing Avast! I checked/tested whether turning off the 'shields' would produce the expected 'Windows Security Center' alert/warning, but it didn't - but, whilst checking in the 'WSC' , after turning Avast!'s Shields off, it showed a message to the effect that there were supposedly two AV programs and that Bitdefender was supposedly sill active/providing protection (which was clearly wrong). Also 'WSC' indicated that there was more than one Firewall running (and advised that can cause problems).
I had previously 'thoroughly' uninstalled 'BD AV Free' using first the Windows 'Add and Remove Programs' route, and also had run the downloadable 'BD Free Uninstall Tool' several times (and I repeated the use of the uninstall tool whilst Avast! was still installed, to no effect - WSC still showed BD Free supposedly still present/registered).
Ultimately I found the only solution was to use 'System Restore' to revert the system back a month, to Oct 25, at a point when no AV was installed (note this was after a first install of 'BD Free', but just before a second install of 'BD Free'). After re-applying the usual monthly windows/flash updates etc, that System Restore undid, the 'WSC' notices/warnings now worked as they should, both before and after re-installation of Avast! (WSC no longer showing two AV/Firewall/Bitdefender etc).
There is one thing I'm not 100% sure about - whether or not the problem was also there before installing the intervening 'Ad-Aware AV'. I suspect the problem probably was there, but I had not noticed (although I had noted that turning of Ad-Aware's AV shield/protection had also failed to produce the 'WSC' warning - but supposedly that was a 'known issue' being worked on).
Incidentally, whilst the 'WSC' was indicating the erroneous supposed presence of two AV/Firewall/Bitdefender - there was no other indication of any problems re Ad-Aware or Avast! running, nor any other problems with speed/errors etc, nothing - which strongly indicates that anything 'left behind' by Bitdefender wasn't causing any obvious problem other than the misleading/confusing/problematic persistance of BD in the 'WSC' messages.
So - a possible solution, if you encounter this problem, is - maybe to try 'System Restore' to a date before the installation of Bitdefender - but be prepared to have to repeat/re-install any updates/programs installed in the time in-between (which sometimes can cause some problems).
[Yet another bad experience - and 'black mark' against 'BD AV Free'.]0
