Firewall Blocking Chrome

Try adding Chrome on the Exclusion list.

I'm getting the same issue, and I fear it runs deeper than simply adding an exception:
In october the 4rth, I noticed that that I couldn't connect to some websites, what was weird, since I received email normally. I soon figured out that the problem was general, and I couldn't connect to any website at all.
But, still, my email suggested that internet was on, so I started Firefox, instead of my defauult option, the Chrome. It worked without any hickups.
I reinstalled Chrome, to get rid of any bugs - it got me nowhere.
I figured I would let it go, could be some temporary thing, and it was no biggie sticking to firefox for a few days. But than I realized that my ORIGINS game client (an EA DRM software) also was unable to log in to validade my account.
I tried Valve's STEAM game client, and it worked without problems.
So I naturally assumed that it could be the antivirus blocking access, as it was unusual to have random programs not working, but others, of similar use, to function. And I soon confirmed the issue: indeed, as soon as I turn off the firewall check, both Chrome and Origin return to regular functionality. Note that I have to turn the firewall completely off. Making it more permissive, or relaxing all the general rules, do not make a dent in the problem.
I have already inserted those programs in both the firewall and the virus scanning exception lists (what did not solve the problem) - and actually, Origins was already automatically added to the firewall list - but the thing to bear in mind here is that prior to october 4, both worked with bitdefender firewall on, without running into absolutely any issues.
I don't know exactly what caused the difference from that day on; but I remember that a few days prior to all this I was getting an weird update issue. Every day, the defender gadget would issue an no-update vulnerability warning. When I tried to manually force the daily update, it would send a message saying that it "failed", even though it would apparently update, and the warning would vanish (never noticed if for hours, or until the next day, but no more than the latter).
In october 4, that issue was apparently solved, what leads me to think something in the update that day altered some protocol handling, and it didn't vibe well with Chrome and Origin. I went online to seek information and, while Origin is a relatively niche software, I was surprised not to find an uproar about the Chrome stopping to work. I think the problem is more localized than I originally thought, and not everybody got their Chromes blocked.
Anyway, that's the long and short of the story. I'd appreciate any suggestions on what to do, or at least in how to conduct diagnostics to find out exactly what is being blocked that is causing the programs to malfunction.
I used the Defender's support tool to creat a log, but it's over 5 MB - too large to attach here...
Anyway, best regards and thanks in advance for any help eventually given.0 -
Hi everyone,
I had exactly the same issue today.
This is not the first time: I've already noticed it on my laptop.
Removing the Chrome rule in the firewall settings and restarting Chrome was enough to get it work again.
(Note that the rule will reappear automatically later)
Hope this helps...0 -
Wow. It worked perfectly, for both Chrome AND Origin.
Removing the path from the list of exceptions; this has got to be THE single most anti-intuitive solution for allowing traffic through a firewall I have ever seen. It's exactly the opposite of a sensible solution. How did you come up with that, man?
Anyway, problem solved. Thanks.

Mine is doing the same thing. EVERY TIME I reboot, it blocks Steam, Chrome and lots of other random applications. Sometimes removing them and adding them back works. Sometimes I have to COMPLETELY disable the firewall. Bitdefender has gone rogue on me for months.
I've been emailing back and forth for two months with them trying to fix it.0 -
Same problem with Bitdefender 2016 Total Internet Security, now, on 5 Dec 2015. Again only with ONE browser, the default browser, irrespective of whether IE or Chrome.
