  • Can you give a bit more info about the computer your using. Operating system, processor, ram, internet speed, will help. Does your computer still boot up as normal or has this also been affected? Were you using another antivirus program that may still be on your computer? I've use Bitdefender for many years because it has always been faster than the competition and it provides outstanding protection.

  • Hello :)

A product update was released and it will be installed on your machine in maximum 24 hours. Your build should be 16.26.0.1739 (please right click on Bitdefender icon from system tray-near the clock-and choose "About". You should see in the left side the build number).

In order for the product update to be installed, you need to reboot your machine(you should see in the Events -> "Reboot required" under the Update module).

Let me know if everything is OK now.

Should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Have a great day!

I installed Bitdefender Total Security on a Toshiba Satellite M40. It is now EXTREMELY SLOW for everything and anything. It never used to be this way.

    Is bitedefender the cause?

I wish to keep Bitfdender on it but if I have to, I will switch to something else.

    Help <img class=" />

  • Hello,i recently purchased Bit defender total Security everything installed fine but my system has slowed down alot, even opening my computer and google chrome takes long i don't know what the Bitdefender program is doing in the background, my system is quad core core i7 3.2ghz, 16gb ram 120gb ssd... if there is no solution for this i would like to have a refund ..thanks

  • I have the same problem and I use a high end computer. My problem might not be as bad as people describe here but its slower than eset, kaspersky, norton, etc. Great protection but why does it slow down internet speed?

Yeah i have the same issue.

    My PC is a I5 3570K @3.4 Ghz

    Windows 8.1 (dev)

    ATI Radeon HD 6770

    aSROCK Z77 Extreme 4

And when i installed the Bitdefender Total Security 2013, all my programs and networks are very SLOW, over 10 seconds to open Calculator and 7 seconds to open one tab on Google Chrome (WTF?!?!?!) <_<

  • Hi

I purchased a original BIT 2013 and use it for 2 months but I have a big problem with BTS 2013

Unfortunately When I start a download with IDM, Initially speed is good but then it drops to zero and download never complete. As you know It happened because of the conflict between IDM and BTS -BTS hunger to download anything that IDM try to download in background- that they had had before and I remember had solved in BTS 2012 finally.

Anyway, I'd tried a lot of solutions to fix it but still stuck in the problem.

Finally I found the strange solution, In the windows safe mode when I Deleted or rename "bdtl.dll" in "\Bitdefender\Bitdefender 2013" the problem would be solved and IDM work well as before installing BTS 2013 with good speed, But there is a new problem, Now I have to turn off auto update, because BTS try to re-download the renamed file and after downloading, again I face to the problem.

    According to this post http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=35409

The problem should be solved But despite that your administarative team declared the topic had been closed, I believe there is a big problem.

I send this message to you because i think you should more care about your customer.

Now I think I paid for something useless.

Since installing bitdefender my computer is practically useless. Every program I try to open including browsers spin and spin sometimes they open most times they don't. So I tried to uninstall the ###### thing and IT WON'T UNINSTALL!

Is this even a legitimate anti-virus software or is it a virus or malware?

I don't know what to do. I have a 4 yr old HP-HDX Laptop with Vista OS.

Please help. It ran fine before installing this FREE software... Yeah I know, you get what you pay for...

One big problem. I can't get online because I can't get a browser window to open now. So how can I even use any tools that might be available. This is a nightmare!

I finally got this piece of garbage off of my computer. I had to go into Safe Mode where it successfully uninstalled. Outside of Safe Mode the uninstall would fail every time. Now that's it's gone my computer is running smooth and fast again. I'm going back to AVG. Never had a problem with their free service. I switched to bitdefender on the advice of a friend, but he had 2012 not 2013. Now he's got speed issues on his laptop.

It appears bitdefender messed up a good thing, but I never experienced the good part!

My advice is get it off your computer and RUN!

Yeah. Terrible load on a PC. It freezes everything, eves MS Word :) In a month my license will end and I'll get different AV. Bitdefender acts like huge virus itself.

Same as above, BD has become a real hog on resources, I have got tired of waiting whilst it checks and updates, I grind to a halt whilst it updates, I now turn off auto updates and auto scan and it seems better, I do a couple of manual updates a day and a weekly system scan and leave it at that. When my subsciption runs out I will look for something that runs better. Very frustrating when you are in the middle of some task and the update kicks in and you have to sit and wait for several minutes while it does its thing.

I had the same problems that all above had but it got even worse as my computer would take up to 6 minutes to reboot. After trying EVERYTHING, I finally gave up on BitDefender. I used the software less than a week <img class=" /> !!! Now that's what I call throwing money out of the window. I bought Norton and never had problems since. :)

 I have loved BD for the last 2 years, but after buying the latest Internet security all our three computers (high end specs.) are practically stalling most of the time. Everything suddenly gets hyper slow; opening programs, windows etc changing tabs. I have even disabled the auto-updates etc. I left Norton for that very reason, but now BD has turned into the same kind of nightmare.

I speculate that BD has become too big and now has been forced/asked to create backdoors for NSA and other goverment agencies?! Something is just not right. The computer is acting strange as if something/someone is performing tasks in the background.

I want to get rid of this trash. What is the best alternative, anyone?

Is it possible to get money back within the first 30 days from Romania?

Just start your PC in Safe mode and uninstall

  • December, 2013 - 'Just' installed BD AntiVirus Plus, version 17.24.0.1033 AND CANNOT GET OVER HOW SLOW my system became. Had Kapersky and may well return to it as this is really a "mud maker"... small footprint but something is going on in the background.

Went in and turned off 'wallet' and several of the other advanced settings (I never IM, so forth) to see...hoping for the best but this is really an anchor.

  • Shame this product has caused such slowness, and no one at Bitdefender will acknowledge or fix it.

  • Finally had to uninstall this 'mud hole'... and then use REVO PRO to clean up that uninstall. Hidden files galore. Frankly this is unacceptable. The watch tells the story.

Access 'any' web site without BD and I'm there in a couple of seconds... with BD, nearly 45 seconds and the "not responding' message all the time.

I ultimately tried to run it without any protection, unselected all the choices, still hung the system.

Something is radically wrong with this version. BEWARE

  • Hey everyone. I am also facing the same issues. Well though it's with the 2014 version. What to do <img class=" /> ? I don't like a slow creeping system that takes a long time in loading every single page when my internet speed is good enough i.e. 3mbps. Can anyone please help. Do I need to install anything else? Or a windows update would help either? Currently I am on Windows 7. I don't know whether it makes sense or not here. Please help me it's making me out of senses.

  • Mine was 2014 version as well.

I did try numerous 'fixes'... made sure that the applications which seemed the slowest (anything Internet related) were isolated and 'not' scanned (just to see, not as a permanent fix).

    No avail.

Even uninstalling with REVO left parts of BD running... ultimately I realized how 'deeply' embedded this A/V goes and that seems why it is so intrusive. I use MalwareBytes and SuperAnti and one other (they were also "excluded" from BD's scan and I excluded BD from theirs as well - still so slow!).

I spent approx $30 on BD and learned my lesson. Kaspersky seems to run better, no major slowdowns, etc... but cannot say exactly why BD does what it does. When you uninstall it really dig into the Registry because it leaves things running!!

    Good luck with your issue.

  • So anyone out there having sufficient solution to this trouble? It would be helpful enough if you reply as soon as possible.

Yes uninstall!!! After buying a 6k laptop I've tried three antivirus programs. Bitdefender is currently on my computer and it is slooooooow. Thankfully I did the trial version. Hoping Revo uninstaller does the trick as this cruddy antivirus is total sludge. It's either AVG or Kaspersky for me, neither noticeably slowed my computer down. I'm done with Bitdefender. I just don't understand how this program gets such high reviews. I could understand if I had a trashed up, older computer, but we are talking brand new. Buh bye bitdefender.

Yes, install another AV product. It's simple as that.

  • Glad I found this thread, I thought it was just happening to me. Basically, same problem with me too, Bitdefender has made my system very slow, some applications are running slower than normal (normal being before I installed Bitdefender) and some are running extremely slow. It all started today when I installed Bitdefender's Total Security (latest/new version). Yes I've uninstalled/deinstalled my last anti-virus (AVG - paid for AV version). Yes the only firewall running is Bitdefender's. I have no temporary file piling up, no nasty malware and my system was running fine before I installed Bitdefender. And yes I have all the latest Windows and all software updated. I'm running an desktop PC, intel i7 at 3.8GHz with 12GB RAM, Windows 7 64bit, 1.3GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570, Sabertooth motherboard. I installed Bitdefender Total Security today. Lot's of updates, ran scans, full system custom scan, checked vulnerability, reports, looked at all the settings, gone through everything systematically and logically. Tried running in user mode, auto pilot, game mode. Still something wrong. Yes I've given Bitdefender time to run all scans and set up. What's odd is that most of the CPU most of the time is idle, as in only a few % being used, there's plenty of spare RAM available too. For example, all my browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) are running slower than normal. If I run Piriform's CCleaner it takes about 20 minutes to do what used to take less than one minute. When Bitdefender is updating it's database, my system, apps, etc all go very slow or freeze. The same happens when an anti-virus scan is running, even if it's set to have low use of resources. I had to use the off button to turn off the computer today after a full custom scan because Windows Explorer (start menu, taskbar, Task Manager, etc) stopped working and wouldn't restart... This hasn't happened once since I got my PC in 2008, it occurred after I installed Bitdefender Total Security.

I think Bitdefender is scanning every system and software application process. This problem reminds me of Norton back in 2006/7 when it did so much (to help protect the system) that it slowed it down massively which became a pain as it took ages to complete simple tasks. Yes Bitdefender provides great security BUT it does so at the expense of the speed of the system. I paid for a 3 PC license today for Total Security which cost £49.94 GBP (which is about $82.83 USD)!! I'm going to ask for assistance before I throw this money away however, if this slow down continues then I'll be looking elsewhere, going back to AVG or trying Kaspersky. Reason I changed to Bitdefender was because of the false positives AVG was picking up which made me think, hmm I'll try an AV company who can be bothered to update their database once in a while. I'd rather have safety and speed though. My i7 is running like it's a single core 1GHz laptop, come on Bitdefender, sort it out or employ someone who can, please! I was going to install Total Security on my laptop too however, I don't think that's a good idea because it's 1.6GHz and my i7 quad core at 3.8GHz can't cope with it. Although, as I said, it's not a case of using up the CPU, there is something else going on here. Why is there no fix for this problem considering customers have been reporting this as a problem for so long?

I don't understand why Bitdefender is rated highly in AV reviews (best of, top 10, etc) when it slows the system down so much. Surely critics and reviewers take speed into account and don't just look at malwares ID'd and software features?

And whilst I'm upset about this I'd also like to add that the Safebox feature which was advertised as being available on Total Security (not the standard AV or Internet Security) offers 2GB of storage space, which I later learned you can get for free! I guess advertising should have focussed on its ability to sync to the cloud and other PCs and not on paying for 2GB, when 5 minutes later you learn you could have got it for nothing when you get redirected to a page on the website! Safebox is very basic, seem years old when compared to Google Drive and Sky Drive which are far more advanced, can open, view and edit documents in the browser, etc.

To summarise, I'm very unhappy with Bitdefender and would like my money back.

Well I thought I should update because there has been an increase in speed of most software and processes, which I'm pleased about. Some are still running slower than normal, CCleaner runs faster (although still a lot slower than without Bitdefender) if it is run a few minutes after start up instead of on start up. The black screen between the start up Windows 7 logo and the user login screen has reduced in time to about 5 to 10 seconds, which is good. I guess these improvements are due to updates and/or the software setting itself up (which if it's the case, must take longer than I'd expected - about 10 hours of PC on time). I'm going to stick with Bitdefender now, I'd like to give it the test of time. Still not sure if it's going to work well on my laptop or slow it down too much, I'll try it out and see. Wish it had worked well from install.

  • I've just installed BitDefender version 17.26.0.1106 on my machine and it really has kicked it for 6 in the slow department. I only bought this yesterday and am already thinking of asking for a refund as this isn't acceptable at all.

    My machine:

    Core i7 @3.2Ghz (watercooled)

    24Gb RAM Corsair 1866Mhz

    240GB Vertex 3 SSD

    Several HDDs

    2 x External Lacie 1TB

The initial full system scan was slow but I have a lot to scan so that's fine. The problem I've noticed is that I have a batch file that launches a number of development tools and an instance of SQL Server Management Studio. That used to take about 2 mins from start to load, I just launched it and it took nearly 8 minutes to complete ...

    . . .

Found my way here after Googling on "bitdefender slow performance" and noticed that post preceding this one mentions using the same version of Bitdefender that I have. I've been using it since 7 March and my PC has been truly painful to use ever since. My PC is not as new as jammer's but I'm noticing many of the same things mentioned in other posts such as extremely long waits after opening a browser tab or switching between programs and it seems like my hard drive is just getting pounded by nearly continuous activity. It's about the same as running three concurrent sessions of Ableton Live 9 on this thing. I'm at the point where the only way I can be sure whether this dramatic loss of performance is being caused by Bitdefender is to uninstall it and replace with something else. I'll post a follow-up when I know more.

  • I've uninstalled it and asked for a refund.

  • I've uninstalled it and asked for a refund.

Dang. I really wanted this to work out but I also just uninstalled it and requested a refund. I tried doing the "repair" re-install first but there was no discernible difference after the reboot. Maybe I'll try it again when I get a newer, more beastly machine but this old Core2 Quad Q8200 works fine for my purposes with other AV solutions, just not with this one. Seems like a really nice product otherwise.

  • My machine is a beast and it killed it. This machine literally flies ... install bitdefender ... felt like I was back on a 386 ... with turbo switched off ...
