Can't Send Emails With Large File Attachments

I have been having a problem sending emails in Firefox since upgrading to 2009 Internet Security. Even with outgoing email scanning and Spam control deselected also tried turning of real time protection (as others have suggested in the forum) I didn't have this problem with the 2008 version. Typically I am having problems with emails larger than a 1 meg. What gives?

I have the same problem mentioned here. I just downloaded and installed BitDefender Internet Security 2009 today. My wife and I have a small business and often need to send fairly large attachments that can't easily be divided. I had this problem with my last AV software on two of four of my computers but could not pinpoint the differences. I was able to get past this problem with one of the free AV scanners out there but want something better. I tried various sizes of email attachments while using BitDefender and could send 1- 2 MB files OK but could not send larger. I disabled the scan of outbound email but still cannot send the larger files. I totally removed BD from my computer and was able to send the email without BD. I then reinstalled BD and now can't send > 2+MB files.

Suggestions, please. I'd like this program to work so I can purchase it for four computers. Thanks

    Hi TomBob,

please try out the online AV scanner again that solved your problem. And if your problem is solved, please let me know which AV scanner did the job for you!

    Hi,

I received the following from Bitdefender support

Thank you for your interest in our security solution, BitDefender.

Please open BitDefender, Switch to Advanced View-->antivirus-->Custom Level ,

un check the following boxes "Scan Yahoo Messenger traffic", "Scan Windows

Messenger Traffic, "Scan incoming/Outgoing E-mail" and hit the Ok button.

    Best regards,

    G.D.

I followed the instructions and sure enough a large email sent OK, no errors. I then selected Scan incoming email, hit OK and tried again and it worked. I mean part of the reason I bought the software was for it to automatically scan incoming mail for virus's, right? If I'm not mistaken, most virus's are transmitted through emails. At any rate that has been my experience. So if this wasn't functioning it would be a deal breaker for me. I then selected MSN Messenger since I use that as well and I am still able send large emails. So I'm happy with the fix so far. That means outgoing scanning and Yahoo messenger traffic are not selected. Since I'm not as worried about whether I have protection for them or not. I'll monitor the situation and update everyone through this thread if the situation changes or I run into similar problems over the next little while.

  • Another resolution that we found after troubleshooting this issue by e-mail was to increase the SMTP server timeout for the e-mail account to about 10 minutes to make sure that we give the servers enough time to process the request.

I want to thank Diana Bele for the suggestion to increase the server timeout setting. I have had no problem sending larger emails over the past day, so I feel that the problem has been solved.

OK now I'm having trouble with this again. I can't send large emails. It seems the settings that I deselect to enable sending large files keep selecting back. These are the scan outgoing email and scan yahoo traffic. I would have thought that this problem would have been fixed by now. <img class=" />

  • If your having problems sending emails with larger file attachments, as that is gernally the reason for you email being larger than 1 meg, you could upload them to a website such as: http://emailattachment.net/. Just upload whatever you want to send there and add a link to your email. Like this your very flexible in the size of your attachments. Hope this helps

  • Yeah this is a common issue, i suggest you either use dropbox for friends and family, or try out http://emailattachment.net/

Basically a safe way of uploading your attachment and then sending the link :)
