Hang On Winhtttp.dll Uninstalled Bdis 2015 Went Back To Bd Av Free

OS: W7-SP1

I just uninstalled BDIS 2015. I can't be bothered with trying to troubleshoot the Quick Scan problem of hanging on 'winhttp.dll'. System sans also appear to be hanging. Their are two 'winhtttp.dll' files on the computer and both are dated 2010. I never had a scanning problem with hanging scans on my W7-SP1 computer using BD AV Free or BDIS 2014. However, their were some update problems with BDIS 2014.

In any case since I don't use the W7-SP1 computer for very much of anything and never had a malware problem when using BD AV Free alongside MBAM 1.75 Pro (now MBAM 2.0 Premium) on the W7-SP1 computer I just decided BDIS 2015 isn't worth the problem. It only cost me $19.95 for a two year license to BDIS 2014 so I will just chalk it up to a petty cash loss.

If the 'winhttp.dll' problem is ever solved before the next vesrion of BDIS is released I might reinstall BD 2015. In the meantime I will stick with BD AV Free on my W7-SP1 computer.

Maybe I got spoiled with BD W8 Security which is by far the best AV product I have ever used. It just keeps rolling along with low RAM usage protecting my three W8.1 updated computers. A great product. Too bad I can't say the same about BDIS 2015.

    Hi,

If you can recall, please tell me how long did the quick scan hang.

Also, I would suggest you to run SFC scan, as explained in this Microsoft article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Let me know if Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and was unable to fix some of them.

  • Just chiming in with this problem I recently noticed it happening to me with BDIS14 so I went through the steps of uninstalling/clearing BD files and installing the new BDIS15 in hopes it would fix the issue. Unfortunately it hasn't :( quick scan is currently up to 14:00 mins, 12mins of the scan have been with winhttp.dll.

  • Same thing here Bitdefender Total Security 2015 hangs on winhttp.dll on startup quick scan any idea how to resolve the issue ?

    Best Regards,

    Karmachaman

  • Me too, it hangs on winhttp.dll exactly at 89% and stays there for ever.

    Anyone?

  • It is doing the same with me. It is hanging at 89% on winhttp.dll.

My quick scan is also hanging on winhttp.dll on my Win 7 machine, first scan hung for 8 minutes, I tried to cancel and stop the scan, it wouldn't let me.

Ran an SFC scan as requested - attached. I am running quick scan again and it is still hanging at the same place, 25 seconds to get to 89%, now been running for 11 minutes. I will give it a bit longer and then kill the scan, one way or another!

Edit, it eventually completed at 14 minutes, I paused it, stopped it and it popped up that the computer was clean.

  • Definitely there is something wrong with BD, how could it be possible that there is such a large number of users suffering from almost an identical issue and not a single comment from the Bitdefender people?

14 Minutes for a Quick Scan??? ...so much for the Quick part of the scan

  • I tried uninstalling BitDefender and re-installing it. That was a nightmare. I took off BitDefender, but it wouldn't reinstall. Instead it would stop during the scan at 89%. Eventually, I was able to uninstall some remnants of McAffee and it scanned to 100% and installed. Now that it is back on my system, it still gets hungup during a Quick Scan on winhttp.dll at 89%. This is frustrating. Why did it just not 100 days into my subscription, have this problem?

I went back to BDIS 2015 a a couple of months ago. This time I did not touch the default settings including the default scans. If I want to run a scan other than the default scans I just run a contextual scan. Everything has been working fine.

    I don't dare try setting up another custome scan <img class=" />

  • By waiting a long time, it finally went to 100%. I ran it again and it went a long time, but ended when I closed the web browser. I found that the Quick Scan only takes 6 minutes when the web browser is closed, but more than double when a web browser is open.

  • I just upgraded to Bitdefender 2015 (from 2013). The winhttp.dll problem on quickscan started in BD-2013 and persists in BD-2015. At 89% quickscan hangs for 10 minutes or more (once I saw 79%)

Keep in mind on my Windows 7 Pro (i7 quad) computer there are several copies of winhttp.dll.

    winhttp.dll files are:

    C:\Windows\System32 & C:\Windows\SysWOW64

also I see some in an amd are and a wow64 area:

    C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft.windows.winhttp_31bf3856ad364e35_5.1.7600.16723_none_b8d304

    5d3cda2bc8

    -&-

    C:\Windows\winsxs\wow64_microsoft.windows.winhttp_31bf3856ad364e35_5.1.7600.16723_none_c327ae

    af713aedc3

Doesn't happen all of the time, but does happen often. I'll mention occasionally I use Ccleaner64.
