Firewall Blocking Windows Networking On Vpn Connections

Bitdefender Firewall is blocking Windows Networking on VPN connections (standard Windows PPTP connection), no way to access file shares on the VPN network until disabling the Bitdefender filrewall.

- Tried to set adapter to Trusted, Stealth mode off, Generic on -> no access to file shares

- Disabled Intrusion Detection and rebooted -> no access to file shares

- Added server IP to "Network exceptions" and tried to acces it using \\server-ip-address -> no access to file shares

Switch Bitdefender firewall off -> everything works as expected and how it worked with 2014

  • Hi. I hope this helps you out. Have you tried to create a firewall zone? See below. 1.gif

Thanks, but this is what I already did as I described in my post under point 1.

I tried all possible settings for the adapter zone, but the only way to make windows networking work on VPN is to disable the firewall.

  • Hi, creating a Zone should work for my VPN, except that to do that I would have to know the IP address of the TAP adapter, which is impossible as it is served from the VPN DHCP.

It would be great to be able to assign rules to an "Interface" instead of a "Network". There is just no way to guess what it will be from minute to minute as it periodically changes.

If it did NOT change, then the VPN would be much more vulnerable.

Is there some undocumented way to set up rules by Device/Adapter ignoring what the IP may be?

I'm really struggling with this. Cisco gave up early years ago in their router IOS and allowed setup by Interface as an option, which really made good sense.

Any help on this would be appreciated.
