Eicar Test File Downloads Through Ssl

I have Internet Security 2015 on Windows 10. In firefox, I am able to download SSL Eicar test files through Firefox by choosing "save link as." Once the file is on my computer, even if I scan the file for a virus, Total Security says nothing has been detected. Am I missing something or is this something to be worried about?

Thank you

  • that's strange... I did the same test with firefox (39.0) and I cannot download any of the eicars test on my computer ( http://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html ). Moreover bitdefender block each download ...So I think you have a problem.

    Bitdefender blocked this page

The page you are trying to access contains EICAR-Test-File (not a virus).

I think I figured it out. It looks like the files become corrupted when downloading them, so I think whatever dangerous code is in them gets messed up by BD while downloading and they become harmless. When I create a text file with the eicar code in it, BD catches it, so I think it's working OK. I just switched to BD from Kaspersky, which is not really playing well with Windows 10, so I was a bit concerned. But it looks like BD is doing it's job and working well with Windows 10.

Great, thank you for posting back your results which may help others as well.

Also, when performing the Eicar tests under "Download area using the secure, SSL enabled protocol https" make sure Scan SSL button under Bitdefender > Protection > Web Protection is active.
