Disconnecting From Internet
HI,
I am having trouble with BD IS 2008 64bit running on Vista home premium. What happens is it disconnects from the internet after times. sometimes 1 hour sometimes 2 hours. My network becomes local only. I have been in touch with helpdesk now for 2 months tried everything they have said to no avail. The engineers are still working on it. My licence will expire before a fix is found. I tried nod 32 free trial and it never disconnects. I also tried avast free and it never disconnects. I tried a clean install of vista 64bit and bitdefender and the problem is still there. I have an Abit KN9S motherboard and 4gb ram amd 5200X2 and a Linksys WRT54GS router. Any ideas? should I wait for a fix or look at buying another 64bit security package?
Thanks
Kenny

Firstly check that you only have one Firewall program running. Generally, you should stick to only one firewall. Software firewalls decrease system performance and may conflict with one another. If you have two disable one.
Secondly manually unplug your internet cable and wait 30 seconds before re-plugging it. This resets the internet connectivity.0 -

Thanks for the reply.
Windows firewall is off and i have done as you say many times. it reconnects and 1to 2 hours later it disconnects (sometimes 1 minute), very annoying for online gaming. It is a bitdefender problem because all other IS works. I am using up my free trials everywhere. For some reason it disables my NVIDIA nforce network controllers internet access.
Thanyou again

Very dissapointed in bitdefender. It runs fine on my other 2 home machines and 5 works machines running 32 bit vista, but my 64bit vista keeps disconnecting. Even did a fresh install of windows & installed ony bitdefender and 1 hour 6 mins later it disconnected. Bitdefender do not answer my polite requests for help. All my home machines and work machines will be changing when my subscriptions finish. My work ones have had bitdefender for almost 5 years now with no problems. My first request for help has ground to a halt. I will switch my works computers in July & my home ones the following year.

Sorry for the late reply.
I asked about your TicketID. I was told that you sent your last e-mail today, but you haven't received an answer because the person who is responsible for your Ticket was not available. You should get a reply tomorrow. If you don't, please let me know.
Cris.
P.S.: About the issue itself, I cannot say anything. Only the TechSupport can figure it out, and they are the ones that get your e-mails.0 -
I kept getting disconnected with IS 2008 64bit. So after a frustrating 4 months with tech support i have progress. Untick the BitDefender NDIS filter and see if that works..................it did.
Now my questions are,
Am I fully protected with this disabled?
Why no graph for net Zone? File zone is ok
What does the NDIS filter do?
thanks

thanks for reply cris, its appreciated.
unfortunately i started a new thread by accident. if you could check it out.
thanks

Dear Kenny,
The problem could be due that you have another ndis filter driver installed which is a known issue in vista see this microsoft article. Go to start, network, press on open network center. Right click on you network card choose properties and untick anyother NDIS filter driver you find press on ok. Try to check BitDefender NDIS filter driver once again. Check also this link.
You are still protected you will still see pop-up's if a known programs connects to the internet.
Now all packets that are being send and received trough you network are being monitored now. That is the only difference.
Best regards

thanks, i downloaded the hotfix, and installed it, & enabled the Ndis Filter
will let you know how it gets on
thanks

No, this didnt work, there are no other ndis filters showing either.
I did not upgrade to windows vista 64 bit, I bought it on a disc. ( I wish I went for the 32bit version now though)
It is an abit motherboard with a NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, this is what keeps losing internet connection, but local is still ok
Thanks for trying

Hi all,
Thanks for you help and suggestions.
I seem to have found an answer to my problem.
I uninstalled the nforce nvidia network contoller driver(nvidia)
I then uninstalled the hardware.
I then scanned for new hardware & it installed with a microsft driver, not nvidia.
All seems ok after 14 hours.
It never lasted more than 2 hours before
So thanks again for all your efforts.
If it goes wrong again, I will be back

Dear Kenny,
There are some more people who have also lost their connection when they installed a driver update for their network controller see here. And here due a windows update. The only problem now is that you can't configure that much when you have the nvidia driver installed.

Thanks Niels
Checked the links out but i think it is bitdefender specific. I ran Kaspersky IS ok with the nvidia driver, also when trial ran out nod 32 64bit smart security and then avg IS with no problems at all. Only when bitdefender was installed did this problem happen. I never updated the driver automatically, and a fresh install vista installs the nvidia driver automatically. I had to do what I said above. Dont know why nvidia conflicts with just bitdefender?
my only problem is the antispam, it scans in and out mail but as soon as i hit the wizard to set it up, Outlook 2007 crashes. any ideas? I did a reinstall of bitdefender but its the same.
thanks

Dear Kenny,
You should report it to BitDefender support. You can reach them via my account Describe everything so they can test it. And please do all what is written here. So it will get fixed trough one of the product upgrade or bugfixes.
Does outlook 2008 crashes when you press on each button of the BitDefender antispamtoolbar? In the meantime you just can select mail and add it to spam and add the spammer to the spammer list. Infact you don't need to run the wizard. First close outlook. Check also task manager (by pressing ctrl+alt+del or ctrl+alt+esc or by pressing the windows button together with r and type taskmgr press enter to see that outlook.exe is not running. Try to register the toolbar again: press the windows button together with r now type: regsvr32 -u "C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2008\bdo.dll" press enter. Now type regsvr32 ""C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2008\bdo.dll" and press enter.
Do you always exit BitDefender before using the repair installation? Because that is necessary.
Best regards

Thanks Niels
I have already reported it to bitdefender so they can work on it. I never exited bitdefender before installation repair, but I will in future,
thanks again

Well the problem came back after 2 days, it disconnected from net then it did it more & more.
But I have found the solution now by accident, not 1 disconnect in 2 weeks
What I have done is alter the network in network sharing center to public network from private network. When I did this it reconnected straight away in the bottom right notification/taskbar
Dont know why this is the answer to the problem but after 2 weeks with pc not having to shut down to reconnect to net it is the answer to my problem
I tried to contact bitdefender to tell them what has worked but the guy I talked to didnt seem too interested, but he may have passed it on?
hope it helps anyone else with a similar problem
