Hello masterosok,
If you turn OFF Bitdefender Firewall and then switch to User Mode, the Firewall module will not turn back on.
Moreover, you can turn OFF the notifications about this feature from Bitdefender > Settings > General > Advanced > Configure status alerts > Firewall status
Please post back if you need further assistance. Thank you0 -
Hi masterosok. Is there a specific program that you wanted running? Try to open just the port that it is using.

I have a hardware device that is handling all my firewall needs, but thanks for the suggestion.0 -

I always run in User Mode.... and if you switch to Autopilot and then turn off the firewall it automatically switches to User Mode, yet it continues to re-enable itself.0 -
Hi masterosok,
To further investigate this case, please post here a support tool log:

Okay, here's what I did to disable the firewall permanently.
Turn on laptop mode, yeah I know, weird but it seems to be the only way to keep auto pilot from toggling back on at the moment.
It's under Settings->General Settings tab. Flip the switch on for automatic laptop mode. Then from the main screen go from Auto Pilot to User Mode. If you're in User Mode, you're already okay. Exit out of the BitDefender GUI.
Next, you'll need to boot into safe mode.
to do this, start a command prompt Start->Run->cmd /x
This quick tutorial shows you the same thing for Windows XP but it's the same through Windows 7.
start msconfig (you could also do start->run->msconfig)
on the boot tab, there's a checkbox on the lower left panel that says "Safe Boot" click that checkbox and also make sure minimal is also checked. Click on OK and the system will prompt you to reboot.
Once the system comes back up, log in as an administator (or as an account with admin rights) and then open up a command window (like above) and
CD c:\program files\bitdefender\bitdefender (or bitdefender 2013)\settings\firewall
there are a few xml files in here but first, copy the settings.xml to say your user directory, i.e., mkdir \users\me\bdbackup... then copy settings.xml \users\me\bdbackup
I use notepad for the next step. In safe mode it's about the only game in town.
In the same command window, "notepad settings.xml" and the xml entries to look like the following:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<settings aggressiveRules="0" enabled="0" defaultAction="0" logLevel="1" icsEnabled="0" blockPortScans="0" monitorProcessChanges="0" ignoreSignedProcesses="1" checkKnownFiles="0" action="0" monitorWireless="0" />
I think you can gather what's going on here just by looking at the XML entries but you get the idea.
You may notice a few gibberish characters in front of the XML, don't delete those. Save the settings.xml file and make sure you save it as ANSI, not UTF-8 or any other mode.
now go back into msconfig, (start->run->msconfig) go to the boot tab and uncheck safe boot and click OK, you'll be prompted for another reboot.
Once your system reboots, if you go into to Bitdefender GUI you should see it in User Mode (there may be a temporary glip where it goes Auto Pilot then User) but it should stay in User Mode but more importantly the firewall should remain off, you can also check the firewall settings and under advanced, all the other features should be disabled.
If you get stuck, let me know and you can back these changes out by going into safe mode, copying your settings.xml backup you made into the \program files\bitdefender\bitdefender (or bitdefender 2013)\settings\firewall directory.0 -
Here's a vid on howto.

I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2014 and I have the same problem. I disable the firewall (I want to use the Windows 8.1 built-in firewall instead) and it switches automatically to user mode. But then I reboot the computer and Bitdefender has turned its firewall back on. So your statement that the new Bitdefender fixes the problem would seem to be false.0 -

I also wonder how i can turn off the Bitdefender firewall and use the built in firewall in Windows.0 -
If I disable the firewall (BD TS) and turn on the Windows one it stays disabled even after rebooting the computer, although it does leave the BD icon an obvious bright red! However, I am on Windows 7 so 8 may be different?

I have 2014 and am having the same problem. It there anyway I can just downgrade to the normal bit defender? I don't have time to mess with your broken firewall.

Hi Kappen,
It depends on how far you are into your subscription. You can try these avenues of support, and see what they say about a downgrade to the AV+.

So far, the BD Firewall has stayed off, and Windows Firewall stays on, during a couple of reboots on Windows 8.1 64-bit with BD IS 2014.
As far as the red BD system tray icon warning (and widget), that can be remedied by disabling the BD Firewall notification in BD main UI/Setting/General/Advanced/Configure status alerts, and switch Firewall status to off.0 -
Hiya Scott,
I was only running a check to see if it stayed off for me, it went back on when the trial was over but thanks for the extra bit of info.

Hi friend, you're welcome. I thought I'd give it a trial run too, just to see. That info may help others here, who didn't know how to make that setting

Hey ive been having problems with turning off my firewall when i open settings.xml in notepad++ all it says is NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL
please help pm me if you want
(ps when i open it also in normal notepad it has nothing in it)0 -
reviving this from the dust. currently using BD TS 2015 and experiencing the same issue. i turn off BD's firewall in settings, but whenever i restart my PC, it is re-enabled again. it doesn't stay off. i prefer to use Windows 10 firewall instead. it is annoying to always have to manually turn off BD's firewall every time i turn on my PC.
