More details.
Currently I dont have any other security software.
I installed BIS2008 on a clean machine (fresh install about 3 month from now), and the problem shows only since a few days.
What details can I give you ? Hardware or Software ?
Thank for your help.

Hello paschacla,
Do you have other user accounts installed on your computer?
If that is the case a possible case is that one of the user account profiles isn't unloaded and that can cause a shutdown hang. To solve that download and install this service. Once you went trough the microsoft validation download UPHClean-Setup.msi press on download.
Are all accounts being logged-out before you shutdown your computer?
Verify that before shutdown your pc.
Does this problem occurs on every user account?
Remove BitDefender by using this tool. First right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock press on exit. Now double click on the uninstall tool. You will be asked to reboot your pc do so. Now install BitDefender again.
Best regards

Hi Niels,
I have only one account on my computer.
I'll check your procedure at home in a few hours and post the result back.

Here I am :
I downloaded the uninstall tool, and uninstall, reboot, reinstall BIS2008.
Everything worked fine.
I began to "work" with my machine, launch Itunes, Firefox, listen to music, read some mails on internet, loaded some music in Itunes.
Nothing special...
Finally I wanted to make a synchronisation with my Ipod, then a window from bitdefender telling "bitdefender treat Scanner ended anormaly" (id event 7034) and try to send a report, but end with error code 9.
I didn't saw this message before. At this moment I can continue until I want to close an application or open an other one and it appear like a general freeze. I try then to close applications, which doesn't work, or shutdown, then I fall in the first case "BDAGENT hang at shutdown, impossible to shutdown.".
Any other idea ?
Thanks for your help,0 -
Hello paschacla,
Where exactly does your computer hang?
Are you still on your desktop? Do you already see the message logging-out orWindows is shutting down?
Can you please do what is written here.You can still do this when you are still on your desktop.
Normally when you see that message you are able to press on end task now? Did you already pressed on it?
Try this press windows button together with r now type regedit press enter. Expand hkey_current_user and open the following subfolders: control panel,desktop,double click on WaitToKillAppTimeout and change 20000 milliseconds (20 seconds) to 25000 milliseconds click on ok. Test if this works try to increase the value with 5000 (5 seconds). Are you now able to correctly shutdown your pc?
Please open task manager:
By pressing these three keys together on your keyboard: ctrl+alt+del(ete) or by pressing the windows button together with r now type taskmgr press enter. Click on the processes tab and on the cpu usage tab 2x times and verify which process is using most of the cpu usage. Try to restart the BitDefender related services by pressing windows button together with r now type services.msc press enter and left click on any service that has BitDefender in the name press on start or restart.

Hi niels,
Yes, I'm on the desktop when it hangs.
I see the three buttons (shutdown, reboot, ...), I can choose reboot for example, the windows disapear, and nothing appens after the window telling BDAGENT hang. At that point I can't close an application, launching some application can or cant work. At the end I dont see any way of getting back my computer then a power off.
I tried to end application that stopped responding by the task manager, but there is no effect.
I'll try your modifications on registry, taking the logs and get back to the forum soon.
Thanks for the advices.0 -
Hi Niels,
The situation is getting worst.
This week-end I could use my computer normaly, but I didn't do very much.
Today I found it freezed, and must reboot it (I couldn't launch fileinfo2008 and sysdump).
Now after reboot, the BIS2008 is unusable, I can't reactivate it. I launched now fileinfo2008 and sysdump. I loaded the result in attach.
Thanks for your Help,

Last update :
I could reactivate by making a "repair" in the "add/suppress program" section of the configuration panel.
I'll run a deep scan tonight.0 -

I had similar issues and they seemed, in my case, to be related to Windows Instaler.
This is what i did.Before proceeding ,download a fresh Windows Instaler 3.1 from Micrososft website ,unless you already have it in your computer.There is in the BD package such an instaler but i found it somehow defective.
1.Uninstall BD and restart when prompted;
2.Run the uninstall BD tool recomended by Niels and restart when prompted;
3.Reinstall Windows Installer 3.1 and restart computer;
4.Locate the BD package and unpack it with WinRAR.Will result 4 files and here double click the Setup.exe with the BD red icon;
5.Install product and update the product when you are offered to,then restart when prompted;
6.After restart manually update BD then restart again.
This should be all and for me worked when i needed to install a clean Windows.
I also recomend you to install latest Internet Explorer 7 and updates prior to installing BD again.0 -

I've had the same issue with "bdagent.exe" as well. I bought BIS2008 and did an install on a clean drive. I did partition the 250gb drive into 2 drives. The OS is on an 8gb partition with the remainder being used for regular files. My computer constantly stops opening programs. An example, I'll click on IE7 and it will open the program in TaskManager, but won't open the program window itself. Also I won't be able to stop the process either. When I try to reboot the computer, it shows the box with bdagent.exe not shutting down and after selecting Restart or Shutdown, the desktop remains. I left it alone once and after about 15mins it went to the "Shutting windows down" bluescreen and froze there. The only way to reboot is to reset or power off.
I know Bitdefender is a great product, but I'm really not used to having a program slow my computer down, quite noticeably, on a consistent basis and then be unable to shut it down 95% of the time.
I have a 3.4EE, 2gb RAM, 2 250gb Maxtor drives, WinXP Pro w/SP2. I don't have any other security software running. I also have issues with my iTunes and Motorola software freezing.
At first I was thinking it could be the partitioning on the drive causing issues, but I've uninstalled BD and have no problems or slow downs since then. I think if I had a QuadCore, it might be less of a speed issue, but I can't really afford to change things around right now. I had purchased BD in June due to trojan and malware issues. I've become equally as frustrated dealing with BD issues as I had the previous virus issues.0
