Bitdefender components seem to be turned off
I'm running Internet Security 2018 on a Windows 7 laptop, and am disturbed to see that the "Solve PC issues" flag in the system tray has a red "x" by it. The "important messages" are "Click to see antispyware programs", "Turn on Bitdefender Antivirus" and "View firewall options". BD Antispyware is shown as off (as is Windows Defender), and although I've tried to reinstate it nothing happens. I've clicked to turn the antivirus on, and to turn on BD Firewall. I've launched BD itself, which has just updated, and tells me my device is protected. AutoPilot had been switched off, though, and I've had to switch it on again. The "important messages" are still showing in the system tray.
Should I be worried about the conflicting information provided by Windows and by Bitdefender? I was blithely assuming that I was fully protected, but am now starting to wonder ...

This is a common issue, and it is a Windows "bug" There are all kinds of reports of this issue if you Google it, and I have seen it myself on my computers. Here is just one link.
Trust Bitdefender. If it says you are protected, you are protected.
I hope this helps. Have a great day.

Many thanks, Phil, that's a great comfort.
(Can I equally disregard all the "critical errors" the Vista/XP version throws up on my old XP computer?)0 -
I can't speak to the subject of "critical errors" being reported by older versions of Bitdefender running on an old XP computer. Perhaps someone else could assist you in that regard. I haven't run Vista since Windows 7 first came out.
As I am sure you are aware, XP is no longer supported by most AV vendors, and no security updates are being issued by Microsoft, so you are living dangerously, in terms of malware vulnerability, by continuing to use XP.
Have a great day.
