Error, please reboot before installing

I have the same problem.
I've been using the Free edition for several years now without any problems, it's been excellent.
But recently - I don't know exactly when because there wasn't any notification provided - it turned off and left my system unprotected. Yesterday I noticed it was turned off and opened the dashboard to turn it on but whenever I moved the switch to 'On' it just turned off again immediately with a red notification saying my system was 'At Risk'.
I re-booted twice with no improvement so I uninstalled it and tried to re-install it, twice, but after downloading the 360Mb software each time I got the same message - Error, please reboot before installing.
This morning I phoned the Bitdefender Technical Support and they said they don't provide support/assistance for the Free Edition, and that I should see if I could find a solution on the Forum ...
Perhaps they don't want us using the Free edition anymore?
Or has anyone any other ideas?0 -
I found a fix that worked for me, hopefully it will for others -
Following on from another thread 'Install Fails' I tried what had worked for him, downloaded it again, that made three times, but it still failed to install.
So then I went to C/Program Files/Bitdefender Antivirus Free/kitinstaller and ran BPinstallerdotexe. It failed to install and asked me to reboot as previously.I tried it a few more times without success.
I rebooted and then tried the same again and then it worked perfectly.
