Checking That Bd Is Updating Properly

is there a sure-fire way to check that BD has been updating properly on my sis's computer? it seems like every time i manually update her computer, it updates, and takes a while doing so. this leaves me wondering if it updating at all.

her computer is a compaq presario with xp home, 256 ram and BD v10.

  • What's the number of signatures known by BD? It's written on the Update tab.

  • Hello ejames82,

Please go to start,my computer, double click on the icon off the partion or hard disk were the software and windows is installed. Open the common files folders search for a subfolder called BitDefender open it. See if you find entries called av32bit... in the 2008 products they are stored in the BitDefender Threat Scanner subfolder open a few off the subfolders and take a look at the date. Normally you must find a folder that is dated today or if you are manualy updating from last week.

The problem is that I don't know what folders you find in version 10. Take also a look into the default installation directory.

    Kind regards,

    Niels

  • thanks for that info, cris and niels. i will check it.

It s very simple, open the "advanced settings" tick the update button and in the upper part of the menus you will see al the info ,last update, last check then a little down number of signatures and the engine version.

  • Hello ejames82,

Can you please post the content off the livesrv log? That might contain some usefull info.

Please check also the following locations: click start,my computer, double click on the icon off the partion or hard disk were the software and windows is installed. Open the program files map look for a folder called Softwin or BitDefender.

Otherwise open the documents and settings folder after that go to the tools menu, folder options, display (view) tab select show hidden files and folders press enter. Open the folder with that has the name off the windows account open afterwards the application data folder BitDefender.

Please make also a screenshot off the subfolders so I can see where it might being stored.

    Kind regards,

    Niels

  • niels,

i am not sure exactly what you mean, but i will "wing it" and see where it goes from there.

first of all, i know you want this log. i think that is what you were trying to explain.

for this computer, it is located via this path:

    my computer>C:>program files>common files>softwin>bitdefender update service

i tried to explain that from the top of my head, so it's accuracy is shaky.

i think it was too big to add as an attachment and i don't know what the rules are as far as copying and pasting is concerned. however, i did copy and paste the last update. i think it is working.

  • Hello ejames82,

Sorry for the confusion. I now see that what I wrote wasn't very clear but I will say it again.

Click start,my computer, double click on the icon off the partion or hard disk were the software and windows is installed. Open the documents and settings folder, there must be a folder that have has the same name if you want to log in into windows. Now go to the tools menu, folder options, display (view) tab select show hidden files and folders press enter. After you have done that you will see the folder application data open it and open the BitDefender folder. Make a screenshot off all the subfolders and folders.

I wanted that you did that also for the installation directory.

Can you please go to 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Communicator\xcomm_10versions.dat' and left click on it with date is being showed?

From what I can see at the log the download succeed. But what is strange is that download time is 0 sec.

    Kind regards,

    Niels

  • niels,

i have negotiated down this path, by your instructions. start>my computer, the bitdefender programme is on the >C: drive>documents and settings, if i want to log into windows, i choose >compaq owner>application data>bitdefender

i opened the bitdefender folder here, and there was only one folder inside, "desktop".

i don't think you want a screenshot of "desktop", so i will open it. i will attempt a screenshot of the contents.

"preview post" doesn't allow me to see whether the screenshot is working.

    post-67-1218074062_thumb.jpg

  • the screenshot worked and i will try to provide you with a screenshot of the folder "profiles". inside that folder contains a folder "logs", that you may want to see. i will try to provide that for you. i will be most grateful if this is allowed by the BD folks and i am grateful to you.
