What is that?
Hello.
This is really, really strange.
@Flexx @Alexandru_BD Any thoughts on this?
A quick check on the internet suggests that it might be a malicious file, though this is just an assumption.
Here’s an alternative approach you can try:
Download the VirusTotal app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funnycat.virustotal&hl=en_IN&pli=1 ) for Android from the Google Play Store and scan your entire device with it. This will help you identify if any particular file is malicious by testing it against the majority of antimalware vendors.
If a detection is found by well-known antimalware vendors, you can share the file's hash here, and it will be forwarded to the Bitdefender malware research team for further analysis. However, if no detections are reported, you might consider asking your question in the Android Community Forum ( https://support.google.com/android/community?hl=en ) for additional insights.
Regards
I'm scanning regularly my devices with Malwarebytes ( PC and phone )...
I've founded another strange thing looking the scans/in the files stored in the backup,there is an extension ".nomedia",I've performed a scan of that file ".nomedia" with Virus Total,the result was this : https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/e3b0c44298fc1c149afbf4c8996fb92427ae41e4649b934ca495991b7852b855/summary
If you look in the comments you'll find people saying that is a malware or something malicious but instead in the results of the scans it looks clean ... What you think about it?
Anyway I'll follow your advices trying Virus Total app and asking in Android forum community....
Do you suggest me to open a ticket with the assistance for this?
I've right now finished the scan with Virus Total app founding no object "_.!%#@$ " , the same for ".nomedia " ...It seems that the device should be clean ...anyway I'll ask in Android Community...let me know !
Edit : Asked right now take a look on the thread if you want :
Thanks for your support and help,let me know!
The file is clean; it is developed by Google itself, as per the VirusTotal link you shared.
Also, you received a satisfactory response in the Android community, as I can see.
Ok,but that was for a ".nomedia " one, what about the "_.!%#@$ " ?
Let me know please
@Alexandru_BD
@Gjoksi
No idea about _.!%#@$, but its unusual name can be characteristic of temporary or system-generated files. Such files are often harmless. What you can do is to check your device for any unfamiliar or recently installed apps, and If you find any suspicious apps, consider uninstalling them. Apart from this, if Bitdefender didn't really find anything there, I think you should be fine.
I've some folders with the same name : "_.%#@$ " these are stored in "Internal storage space",I don't know how could I copy the exact path of the folders in question to show them to you, anyway these are related to the folder named "_.Trash" in the "Android" folder ..it seems to me that could be anything related to some files that I've deleted previously..
Anyway all these folders seems to be empty even with the option active to see hidden files .. I don't know why Bitdefender Mobile sees this "_.%#@$" like a file during the scan...
For what concern the ".nomedia" file, I've founded many of them in the "Internal storage space" more precisely in "Android" in the folder related to Whatsapp ... Reading the article provided in my thread in the Android Community about these kind of files and their functions:
https://www.lifewire.com/nomedia-file-4172882
I've tried to upload one of the files contained in the folders where are stored some of these ".nomedia" in Virus Total just to check if there could be any menace potentially hidden using this kind of trick,the result was that I've got a message from VT saying this:
https://docs.virustotal.com/docs/empty-file
reading the docs is explained that if the file is not of 0 bytes size then it is possible that some process prevents the sent of it for the scan,in my case I was uploading a file of 24 bytes so what do you think about that ?
The process that possibly blocks the uploading could be the ".nomedia" file ?
In this case, should I try the procedure explained in Lifewire's guide to try to modify them to see the content of the folders where they are placed and possibly scan them with VT in the right way?
@Gjoksi @Flexx @Alexandru_BD
Let me know !
I have a similar issue or problem. BD scans files or folders (e.g. Android, media, storage, emulated, DCIM, pictures, Whatsapp, and other nondescript files) for at least 40 seconds before actually scanning apps in my mobile.
Yes, it happens with VirusTotal sometimes. Try zipping the file and then uploading it, or clear your cache, close and reopen your web browser, and try again. If the issue persists, try uploading the file to https://virusscan.jotti.org/ and check the results.
However, kindly note that the Bitdefender engine on Jotti's malware scan website will not detect Android malware. This is because Bitdefender for Android uses a cloud-based engine, which also prevents it from detecting Android malware on VirusTotal under the Bitdefender section. To address this, Bitdefender has a separate Bitdefender Falx engine on VirusTotal specifically for detecting Android malware, which is not available on Jotti's malware scan website.
