New To Bitdefender But A Disappointing Start

edited November 2008 in General talk

I recently dumped my [removed] product at license renewal time and made the move to Bitdefender. I am now wondering if I did the right thing... It was a pig to install as it simply closed down my internet connection. I had to reset the IP stack and reinstall the product. Bad start. Then, a few days later, my AV shield died. No solution that I could find other than another reinstall. Now I notice that the updates seems to have stopped working and that my antiphising feature is not working. This seems soooo flaky. Is this version very new, or is it me !? I feel I want to like this product, but I have never had to expend so much TLC on an AV/security product before.... Please reassure me that I am not alone and that fixes are coming thick and fast.....

In my opinion bitdefender is the best antivirus.

I've been using since Bitdefender 7.

Now I'm using Total Security 2009 and satisfied.

But since 2008.10.30 my total security didn't dowloaded any updates and so I've tried to install weekly.exe but I got error too.

It says plugin path not found.

For the update issue maybe because of our information technology park router.

My friend is using [removed] free edition and his [removed] also didn't downloaded any updates since 2008.10.30.

By the way I found that bitdefender protects my computer more than any other antiviruses.

    I've tested trial editions of:

    [removed] 5, 6 and 2009

    [removed] internet security and antivirus

    [removed] antivirus

    [removed] antivirus

    [removed] Internet Security 2008

Try using bitdefender live chat support.

I get response in 1 minutes.

    Roadtorode:

I recently switched from [removed] to BDIS-2008 and found it difficult to install but after the install it worked.

I then upgraded it to BDIS-2009 because there was no fee to do so.

2009 was even harder to get working correctly, at least 10 hours have been spent messing with it. Now that it is really all installed and working, I like it and it now always seems happy after each boot of my computer.

I see a few of my hourly updates show a failure but the next update does work, etc.

For now I'll keep using it.

The Pro's: Decent forum support and a system that seems to do its job. I haven't tried telephone support.

The Con's: A pain in the butt to install and get everything working. This isn't for average users who want to install and then ignore.

Dont be sorry you ve switched on BD.I have seen [removed] at work ,that computer was filled with over 70 trojans and over 20 rootkits in day by day usage web navigation and messenger activity. That computer was nt even able to boot.

The problem you encounter is due to [removed] leftovers.Clean all your previous antivirus leftovers. Before installing BD reinstall/repair Visual C++ Microsoft Redistributable and clean the bad BD instalation with the BD Uinstall Tool. Also do some RAM checking you may have bad RAM that causes corruption. At least check if the RAM is in manufacturer specs as voltage and timings.

I'm prepared to stick with it for a bit as it "feels" good. I just hope it stabilises.

  • I installed Total Security 2009 trail about 4 days ago for the first time and have had so many problems with it.

It caused the Automatic Updates service on my PC to hang on "stopping", so I was not able to download any updates. I uninstalled BD and the updates started working again.

Then again yesterday I re-installed the trail and could not check my e-mail because some error with my anti virus software, I uninstalled it again. I also re-installed my OS.

I decide to give it another try today and my internet connection stopped working, my monitor resolution went crazy, the firewall was turned off, anti-spamming was off and could not get it on and there were other three problems with that could not get fixed, on top of that some programs would not respond.

I just finished uninstalling it again and as soon as it was done uninstalling I was able to use the internet, my computer display is back to normal, the regular windows firewall is back on and working but my windows update service is acting funny, it keep installing the same update over and over and now I can't restore my computer to an earlier time even though the is about 10 restore points to choose from.

BitDefender software really disappointed me. I decided to try it because according to some anti virus software review sites, this is one of the best out there but now I doubt it. I will have to look somewhere else for something better with less problems and more solutions.

Use BD 2008 it s much better for the moment.BD 2009 will be really ready to be used somewhere in december, in my opinion.Same thing applyed last year for BD 2008,was unusable on my old system untill december 2008, a lot of blue screens.BD 2009 is not yet finished.

Anyway remember to CLEAN ANY LEFTOVERS FROM A PREVIOUS SECURITY SOFTWARE.Use a registry clean up tool if needed. In the worst case 3 installing/uninstalling cycles should solve the problem.Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable should also be updated or repaired before BD instalation.

You are not alone. The program was disconnecting me from internet too, and slowing other prgrams down....

I've since removed it and switched to [removed].....working good now.

    BD is the best...
