Hope You Can Help

Have just bought bit defender 2008 Total Security, what I am finding is it wont update how the book tells me to, it goes to 900% a but then nothing else happens.

But if i click fix and go into update and click fix it updates.

Am i missing what to do, or am i not leaving it long enough.

Also when updating should it show red or green.
