Can't Complete Install Or Uninstall

I have an incomplete install of bitdefender antivirus 10 on my computer. I can't complete the installation or uninstall it. When I try to install, the computer tells me that the administrator--that's me-- has created a rule to prevent installation. Bitdefender is not on my add/remove software so I can't follow the usual instructions to uninstall. And I can't replace Bitdefender because windows xp says I already have an antivirus on there. How do I fix this?

Sincerely,

Mike

  • Back up your registries, and in XP there can be several. Create a restore point. Fire up regedit and search the string "unisntall" (NO QUOTES!). Find th BD keys(s) and wipe those out. Next, find the BD msi file on your PC which installed BD; e.g., it could be names 12667bd.msi. Back to regedit and wipe the BD msi keys.

Life is a ######, and BD likes to keep it that way! <img class=" />

  • Check running services too. BD screwed up my computer too, will never use or suggest again. Too bad for them since I work for an IT company and need to recommend products often.
