Bitdefender Total Security Is Blocking Firefox Addon Install
I would just like to know what I can do to unblock Addon installs for my FireFox browser. As soon as I installed BitDefender Total Security 2009 it wiped out all my addons in FireFox, so I did what anybody would do & tried to reinstall but that didn't work at all. What can I do to get BitDefender to allow the install & operation of my addons? And no I can't just live without them, I'd rather uninstall BitDefender than loose my addons! " />

Now I'm getting a lil annoyed, when I went to live support this is what happened:
Asher: Welcome to BitDefender LiveAssistance!, Lamron333! Thank you for your interest in our security solution BitDefender.
Asher: Hello!
Lamron333: hi
Asher: Please tell me, what product and version of BitDefender are you currently using?
Lamron333: BitDefender Total Security 2009
Lamron333: just got it a few days ago
Asher: What Windows are you using?
Lamron333: XP
Asher: Ok, please tell me, why do you think BitDefender is conflicting with Firefox ?
Lamron333: because when I go to install any of my addons like NoScript or Ad Block Plus it tells me there was an error & it can't install, when I check the error log it says BitDefender is the reason
Asher: Have you tried to disable the Real Time Protection from BitDefender?
Lamron333: no, but I shouldn't need to have lower protection for a browser addon
Lamron333: I can right now if you want
Lamron333: still not installing
Lamron333: could it be from the antiphishing filter?
Lamron333: Hello?
Lamron333: the 2 addons I can't live without are https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 & https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
Lamron333: Are you still there?

What about the $100 I spent on this product to cover 3 PC's? I'd rather give them a chance to fix their issues than just flush $100. Also BitDefender has a much better detection database than like any AV, I know, I've looked. This product cought Trojans & viruses that Norton, McAfee, PC-Cillin & AVG all missed!
Its just the fact my favorite Security addons don't load or install. I'll give them a chance to fix it, but if they can't/won't I'll have to write a very bad review on the product & look into getting my $100 back.0 -

Lamron:
If it helps at all, I run Firefox with BDIS 2008 (not 2009) and I can use Firefox addons. My pc runs XP pro sp3.

PS, I'd also agree with the comment about getting your money back asap and choosing a different AV software. I fought BD2009 for too long.0 -

Lamron333,
No doubt about it, BitDefender does have an excellent A.V. engine; it's the rest of the product that isn't worth a hoot!
What good is an A.V. engine if the rest of the product prevents it from installing or running properly? What good is a product if it is incompatible with your hardware and/or software?
Sorry about your financial investment, but have a look around this forum. The facts speak for themselves.
Cris taught me well, Always, always, always try a product before you part with your money!
There are lots of wonderful alternatives out there and the majority of them offer far superior tech support.
Good Luck!
Cheers

Lamron333, first of all, re-enable Real Time Protection. That's the most important feature of any AV.
When trying to re-install these addons what kind of message does BitDefender shows you? Is it detection?0 -
Hello Lamron333,
I'm running Windows XP SP3, Firefox 3.0.10, and using many Firefox add-ons, including NoScript. Never had problems. So your problem might be caused by something else.Lamron333: because when I go to install any of my addons like NoScript or Ad Block Plus it tells me there was an error & it can't install, when I check the error log it says BitDefender is the reason
Could you tell me what error log are you talking about? Please post the whole error message, or a screenshot of it.
Do you have any other security software installed on your system?

I found out what happened, its fixed now. I guess when BitDefender tried to install the phishing filter into firefox it messed up some how. I just uninstalled FireFox & delete all profiles & re-installed & BAM! Fixed, please close this topic.

I'm glad to hear that it's fixed. If you have other problems, don't hesitate to post.
