Re-install Failure
Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. I've been using BD for several years now and it hasn't given more than the usual trouble but now I am stuck. BD started to repeatedly shut down with Critical Errors and I eventually decided to re-install it (on XP Pro SP3) I ran the BD uninstall App but this failled to completely clean the registry files, I ran the BD installer anyway and it rolls back after telling me "Installer has insufficient authority to modify this file: C:\ Program Files\Common Files\Bit Defender Threat Scanner\TBD17.tmp
It goes without saying that I am logged on as Administrator.
So I deleted these Threat Scanner files with Unlocker and went through the registry removing all previous BD entries except a few which were locked and which I could not remove. I have tried everything I know to get BD Total 2010 to re install but now I am at a loss and I still have a couple of years licence paid up. Can anyone help me out? BD Support is mute, of course.
I have attached a Debug file for anyone who understands these things.
Be really grateful for some help.

I just thought I would add a sysdump file in the hope that helps sort out this problem, thanks.

Hello Bluefish,
Please try the steps bellow and let us know what happened :
1. Uninstall AVG and if necessary used their uninstall tool from the next link in order to remove all traces of this program.
2. Download the BitDefender uninstall tool from the next link : http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall .
3. Start your computer in Safe Mode :
- restart the computer;
- repeatedly press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins
to load (you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu);
- select "SAFE MODE" in the text menu and press "Enter".
- wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation
message; click "Yes" to acknowledge.
4. Run the uninstall tool downloaded earlier and reboot your computer in Normal Mode when you will be prompted.
5. Download the BitDefender installation kit accessing the next link and run it in order to install BitDefender.

Thank you very much. Your instructions have enabled me to re-install BD TS2010. I wish I had thought to attempt an uninstall in the safe mode.
Now I have to hope that whatever was causing BD to exit with a Critical Error has been killed with the fresh install.
Thanks once again.0
