Bitdefender Crashing,,,,often

i'm running Bitdefender Total Security 2010 and since about the 30th of June i have been having multiple Bitdefender error windows opening up every so often , and always when windows reboots , it asks if i want to send the crash details which i do , then another error box opens up and asks the same thing ,, it just keeps going in circles.

I decided to use the support tool and it ran through it's thing , but never gave me the opportunity to see whether anything was sent

to Bitdefender or not , but i end up with a folder on my desktop.

The other thing is that i don't have the Bitdefender "red ball" in my task tray and when i open up the dashboard it shows that the "last scan" was never and that the "next scan" is never , though i have it set to scan every second day and the schedule is still set up in the antivirus tab.

Can anyone help or have had this happen to them??

Or should i just uninstall and reinstall??

I've had Bitdefender for 5 years now and never had any problems before and by the signs of things my computer is wide open to any virus's.

Thanks Gord

    Hi Gordow!

What happened on the 30th of June? anything peculiar?

Did you download something nasty? (crack, keygen, and so on...)

    Did you install any software?

and always when windows reboots , it asks if i want to send the crash details which i do , then another error box opens up and asks the same thing ,, it just keeps going in circles.

Yes it happens too, but not "in circles", a single reboot is enough, "in circles" is a bad thing.

Be patient, a bd technician will help you soon. I do not know if the kind of report you talk about arrives at the right place

The absence of scan is bad news, it is either a bug, a problem with windows/Bitdefender or worse a malware.

The grey ball, the deactivation of the AV is unfortunately very very common... It happens to many customers. (I get the problem for a few seconds every time I start the computer, there is a bug with windows live messenger probably and I have to wait for a few seconds to have the red ball back, or I deactivate the live messenger in the config registry not to get this issue.

You could deinstall/reinstall the sofltware, yes with start program bitdefender remove/repair.

If it does not work, download the BD TS 2010 (you kept your customer code on an organiser? in a book? anyway you can find it on your bitdefender before removing it completely. Remove completely the soft, install the BD file before going back to internet and update it. If you can't, we could suspect a malware.

There are several reasons we have breakdowns with computer.

Check how far your system is healthy, check the hard disk, the memory, the windows system.

Deinstall every soft you do not need before a long time, deactivate lots of exec files you will not use in the sessions to come thanks to msconfig. Launch a defrag.

Do a cleaning operation with CCleaner (beware of cleaning the registry itself, it could be hazardous)

You was a lucky guy not to have had any problems for 5 years! :)

Since how long haven't you reformat the hard disk?

I usually plug the hard disk (of friends) on my system to analyze and launch an antimalware scan...

but the usual method is hijackthis.

You could use the method hijackthis to put the analysis of your system on a distant server such as cijoint.fr (french site) to be checked by spet. The BD help could ask you to do that, maybe.

I'm not truly an abntimalware spet, however I can remind you the usual tips:

    One firewall and only one

    one antivirus and only one

one antispyware (ok I have malwarebytes too... B) )

Avoid any toolbars given "free" from companies you do not know.

Be very cautious when you go to P2P...

Give details of your system to the bd help desk when you receive an answer.

It is a bit late in Europe now... I go to bed.

Good night and good luck for the cleaning/reinstall.

    :)
