[resolved]How To Disable Daily Virus Scan?

Every night while I'm playing games, bitdefender begins to do a routine virus scan, I've ran through the options and I can't find where to shut this off. Also most other virus programs, if there's a way to not run while the user is active, such as mouse movement or keystrokes, not to activate the scan, that would be great :)

  • I believe the game mode feature is responsible for this. Once triggered, it can prevent scheduled scans until you're no longer playing.

  • But wouldn't I be vulnerable to attacks while game mode is active?

  • Is there no way to disable the automatic scheduled scan without switching modes?

  • You may disable the automatic daily scan by modifying the schedule for Deep System Scan(or System Scan. I'm not certain which). This can be done in the Expert mode by right clicking a scan task and accessing it's scheduling options. You should be able to change this to something more convenient to your usage pattern, but please keep in mind that you should let BitDefender perform a full system scan at least once a week.

Please see the manual for details on this procedure.

  • Hi PandaCub,

No, you can't disable/enable or edit a scheduled scan without switching GUI. You can only do these tasks in Expert Mode. You will need to check and see what type of scan have you scheduled under the Antivirus module tab -> Virus Scan. Note that the scheduled tasks will be listed under User Defined Tasks and each task will have a clock icon next to it.

But wouldn't I be vulnerable to attacks while game mode is active?

No, even with the Game Mode on, the Real Time Protection module is enabled so your computer is protected. The game mode will mainly prevent the update or scanning the PC while you are playing so the computer will be used at its max for the loaded game.

  • Ah thank you, I had not realized there was a clock there.

One last question, I read that when game mode is activated, it allows all connections? wouldn't this make me more vulnerable to attacks?

No, not really because it will allow connections from known applications and for the populated games list that can be found under Game Mode module -> Manage Games within BitDefender.

Furthermore you also have the option to Set Firewall to allow all connection. That will ensure that all Firewall rules will be applied, but Games will be allowed to connect to the Internet without asking you each time if you allow it or not.

You can disable that feature from: BitDefender GUI (in Expert Mode) -> Game/Laptop Mode -> Advanced Settings.

Considering the above please keep in mind that nor the Real Time Protection (Antivirus) or Firewall will be disabled while the Game Mode is on therefore you have nothing to worry about. You can read more about the Game Mode feature by consulting the BitDefender Internet Security UserGuide

    Best regards,
