  • I sorted it out myself by very quickly going into "Programs & Features" and removing Bitdefender. I had also removed the laptop in question from central.bitdefender.com, so that may have helped. I'm just not sure, since it did not help immediately. Not surprisingly, Bitdefender support gave me a completely useless reply,…
  • Can someone please give me the command line to uninstall Parental Control? I may have time before the PC is locked to uninstall it, after logging in as admin.
  • Hello, All posts in the Feature request section are being reviewed and evaluated as a potential features, it is up to our devs to accept or deny a feature. Should a feature be accepted you will be able to see it in the product. That seems strange. Why would it be up to developers whether to include or omit a feature? It…
  • I followed those instructions exactly, but BD still has a stranglehold on the hosts file. I can see that it's vsserv.exe that has locked handles on the hosts file. I can't delete, replace, or rename the hosts file. What makes no sense additionally is that I can edit the hosts file with some applications, but not others.…
  • Thanks for the reply. Let's please go easy on the info that gets posted here. No one else needs to know my ticket number or anything else. As I've mentioned before, I'm sure you are understaffed and underappreciated. My frustration (which surely is understandable given that I've spent as much time messing with BDTS lately…
  • A repair of BDTS 2016 didn't help. It did reset ALL my settings to default without warning however. How nice.
  • Wait -- You got help for the FREE version of BD, yet I can't get help even after PAYING for BD? I request support, then wait 4 or 5 days, and get a bizarre response, to which I reply as best I can. Then, I get some canned nonsensical non-answer, followed by message after message after message saying they're waiting for a…
  • I no longer use GlassWire, but I have noticed the same thing, because I frequently check the hosts file in a text editor. I typically see carriage returns (basically, empty lines) at the end of the hosts file, which I know were added by BDTS 2016. I also noticed that BDTS 2016 makes sure that metrics.bitdefender.com is…
  • I've already requested a refund. I cannot get through to Bitdefender "support,"* so I'm 99.9999999% sure I'll be getting my money back and NEVER looking this way again. If Avangate plays the same "you don't exist unless you're holding a credit card in your hand" BS, well then I'll dispute the charge and that WILL end up…
  • You're being a bit hyperbolic. Microsoft may be pushing it, but they are obviously more accountable--in theory, at least--than malware authors, who are only accountable if apprehended. The only solution is to stop using Windows. Half measures will not cut it.
  • Hey, why not reply to myself AGAIN? I just bought a license for BD Family Pack 2016. I guess that's what I needed. I think the web site changed 4 or 5 more times since I started this thread. It's not my fault. They make the product selection way too confusing, with all the focus on ****** who just need to see the dazzling…
  • I am 95% sure the answer for both apps is that yes, they are included. I just found that if I log into Bitdefender Central and then hit "My Subscriptions" and click "+" to add a device under BDTS 2016, then select Android, it directs me to the "Parental Advisor" and "Mobile Security & Antivirus" apps on Google Play. It…
  • I imagine they are understaffed, overworked, and underappreciated. If so, that's unfortunate, and it's frustrating for customers and prospective customers alike.
  • Had a crap day today and then mbibed a bit tonight... Came here to edit/delete but oops, can't do that. Sorry. At least everyone got some entertainment!
  • Up until yesterday or today, 2016 products WERE NOT EVEN LISTED on your web form. And now, you claim to be "Windows 10 compatible," yet you still do not list Windows 10 on your contact form. And yet somehow I am supposed to feel comfortable coughing up $100 or $200 to subsidize you. Right? It's not about "Gee, does the…
  • SERIOUSLY? No one can answer this simple question? I only have to ask because the ****** who made the Bitdefender web site did not think that prospective customers would need to know WHICH PRODUCTS THEY WOULD BE INSTALLING AND WORKING WITH! I am not content knowing "Oh gee, anti-theft and parental ... something or other."…
  • I just did a clean install of BDTS 2016 20.0.18.1037 (i.e. it had never been installed previously) on Win10 Pro x64. Ransomware protection was off by default.
  • This is an old topic, but my answer might help someone. I had the same Security Exception problem, and it turned out to not have anything to do with Bitdefender. When I set up the new IMAP account I had Thunderbird automatically pick the settings, including the servers (as suggested by my provider.) I went back to my…
  • I installed BDTS 2016 awhile ago, and my Hosts file is fine. I can tell that BDTS did edit the Hosts file... But it simply added a few bytes in the form of a couple carriage returns at the very end of the file. Why it would do this, I don't know, but it didn't wipe or comment out my stuff. If it ever does, I will not be…
  • Is this issue resolved? So how long did this outage last?
  • Oh no ... I don't have BD installed right now, but I use custom Hosts file entries myself and I don't want to deal with this. Is it possible to disable Hosts file monitoring? If no one else replies, I will reply if/when I get BDTS installed. If there is no way to prevent this, I won't be buying/using BD.
  • Don't bother replying, not that anyone was going to--I'm getting a refund due to this issue and others.
  • BD support replied to me and advised me to disable "Scan SSL". I love it when I am advised to do something I clearly explained I had already tried. I'd be shocked if the next reply didn't advise me to try uninstalling/reinstalling.
  • I forgot to mention that I have tried Safepay. It does not help. The onlinebank.com tab does not even open in Safepay (i.e. I click "bill pay" on my credit union site, and ... nothing happens). So, Safepay is NOT a suitable workaround. I feel a refund coming on...
  • I may have the problem licked. (Not a solution, but a workaround.) I changed from SSL/TLS to STARTTLS, and don't seem to get the prompts anymore, even with email scanning (i.e. antivirus) and anti-spam enabled. Because I hate when people are vague about how they fixed a problem, here are the rather exact steps in…
  • I don't think it's a toolbar issue at all. I think it happens when BD intercepts traffic to/from my IMAP server. When I'm able, I am going to try disabling email scanning.
  • Some antivirus products also scan email connections for malware between the email server (whether POP3/SMTP or IMAP) and client. As I understand it, Bitdefender does not do this even for POP3. Oops, I was wrong about this...
  • Bitdefender Anti-Spam does not support IMAP. There is no technical reason that it could not function with IMAP, so my request is to finally add IMAP support. Some antivirus products also scan email connections for malware between the email server (whether POP3/SMTP or IMAP) and client. As I understand it, Bitdefender does…
  • I deleted the "bdThunderbird@bitdefender.com" value under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Thunderbird\Extensions", and even reverted to an old copy of prefs.js that had no mention of Bitdefender. The problem persists.
  • I just had the same thing happen. It seems to be simply a way to upsell you for the $15/month product. If you live in the USA, you can get a free copy of your credit report every year.
