Bonjour,

You were scammed and lost your savings. I understand that you are frustrated that Bitdefender did not prevent this from happening.

Bitdefender is a leading antivirus software, but it is not perfect. No antivirus software can detect all malware, and scammers are constantly finding new ways to trick people.

In your case, it sounds like you were tricked into giving the scammer remote access to your computer. This allowed the scammer to install malware on your computer that allowed them to steal your personal information and access your bank accounts.

Bitdefender does have features that can help protect against remote access attacks, but these features are not foolproof. If you are not careful, you can still be tricked into giving a scammer remote access to your computer.

Here are some tips to help you avoid being scammed:

    1) Be suspicious of unsolicited phone calls or emails from people claiming to be from Bitdefender or any other company.

    2) Never give out personal information, such as your passwords or credit card numbers, over the phone or in an email.

    3) Only connect to remote support services that you have initiated yourself.

    4) Keep your antivirus software up to date.

    5) Be careful about what websites you visit and what files you download.

If you think that you may have been scammed, there are a few things you can do:

    1) Contact your bank immediately to report the fraud.

    2) File a police report.

    3) Contact Bitdefender to see if they can help you recover your files or money.

Kindly contact the bitdefender support by visiting https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/ and scroll down to the bottom of the webpage where you can get in touch with support representative either by email, chat or over a call.

Alternatively, you can also share your query with bitdefender support team by dropping them an email at bitsy@bitdefender.com

The support team will reply back to your query within next 24-48 hours excluding weekends.

    Hello @SCHMITZ,

I'm very sorry to hear this and I hope the lost funds can be recovered.

Digital Identity Protection is a service that monitors your digital footprint, it shows whether your personal information has ever been leaked across the Internet and sends instant alerts about any new breaches. You can also check whether your digital footprint leaves you at risk of identity theft or social media impersonation.

If permission or authorization has been given for someone to access your device remotely, it cannot protect you and the antivirus won't be able to shield your precious data either, if access to such sensitive information was allowed. If someone would try to hack your device by various means, that's entirely a different story and the antivirus will protect you.

As Bitdefender’s influence in the cyber-security industry grows, there are more scammers pretending to be Bitdefender tech support. If someone cold calls you or leaves a voicemail message pretending they are with the support department of your security solution and that they have detected serious issues with your device, never call back. They may manipulate you into saying the name of your antivirus and then claim to work for Bitdefender.

Bitdefender’s representatives will never call or email you out of the blue to tell you that there’s a security problem with your PC, Mac, or smartphone.

If a scammer got your account details and you lost funds as a consequence, contact your bank or financial institution immediately.

You may wish to file a complaint with the appropriate authorities or your regional fraud reporting center:

I hope the information is helpful.

Once again, I regret to hear this has happened to you.

    Regards,

    Alex
