Were these attacks real?
Before I got Bitdefender, I called a number that was supposed to be McAfee technical help but I came to suspect was a scam. The person I talked to had me give him control of my PC and then he quickly showed me a list of times my computer had been attacked recently. It was a long and impressive list! He said it would cost $250 to get McAfee to fix this. I got suspicious and didn't take him up on the offer. But after I installed Bitdefender I was told there were NO problems. Was the list somehow fake?

That was just just the scammer showing you, manipulating results from "your end" with the fake list that they were somehow quickly able to show you, to try to get you to panic to buy their support.
A Bitdefender System scan would have picked up on it if there were any issues. For even greater peace of mind as well, run Norton Power Eraser. It's a 2nd opinion scanner that does not install and run on your PC, and is only used on-demand and will only leave a folder for future use if desired.
Kind regards.
