How Do I Uninstall Bitdefender VPN Permanently?

Whenever I try to uninstall Bitdefender VPN, it auto-reinstalls itself the next time Bitdefender updates itself. How do I uninstall Bitdefender VPN in such a way that it stays uninstalled permanently?

  • Hi @Captain Obvious,

So, there's actually a longer story here. All customers that use a Bitdefender security suite also benefit from 200 Mb/day of free VPN encrypted traffic, therefore the app is installed alongside the antivirus, so the customer can utilize the full functionality of the product they chose. All Bitdefender apps are easily removable via standard platform specific mechanisms (eg for Windows, go to Programs & Features). If the app is uninstalled, it should stay that way, this process being independent of updates.

However, I remember there was a bug at some point where the VPN app got stubborn and reinstalled itself after a product update, despite a previous uninstall being carried out. But that was long time ago and the issue was fixed at that time. Now, if for some reason this behavior resurfaced in a corner-case, it will require a more detailed investigation, so the Support engineers must look at the specifics to determine why the app reinstalls itself after a Bitdefender update, because as it stands, this is not the intended behavior. Like I mentioned earlier, once the user uninstalls the VPN app, it should stay that way unless the user decides otherwise.

Going forward, to get to the bottom of this and find out exactly what is causing the VPN app to reinstall itself after each Bitdefender update, head to the link below to contact the Support teams and ask for assistance:

    https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/help/

They may require some logs from the affected machine, in order to check what happens during the update process and what event triggers the VPN reinstall.

If possible, let us know how it went and if the issue could be resolved swiftly.
