Excluding Compressed Files

I wanted to know if anyone else is having a problem excluding compressed files. I currently have installed on my laptop BitDefender AntiVirus 2009 with the latest updates. In the exclusion area, I have selected file extensions of type RAR and ZIP set to be excluded from scans.

Unfortunately, every time I do a full scan, the RAR or ZIP files on my hard drive are scanned. Is this a know issue? I also noticed that even if I excluded the file types in the compressed files, in my case VMWare virtual disks(VMDK), the virus scan will scan them regardless.

Any help would be appreciated.
