Bitdefender And Other Apps

Hi all,

I have been trying out different security applications for the past 6 months or so. Started out with BitDefender 10 AV in January. Tried the new PC Tools Spyware Doctor 5 with AV for awhile. They are having lots of problems with that. I have decided on BitDefender antivirus as it comes so highly recommended and ran well on my system. Also have spywareblaster running in the background.

My question is do you run other real time anti spyware programs as well? I know you should only run 1 AV which I do. Does BitDefender also take care of spyware and malware in real time?

Can I use just BitDefender with a firewall for real time protection?

I use Spyware Doctor, AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Superantispyware for scanning once in awhile to catch anything that BD may miss.

Also, I was using Zone Alarm free and PC Tools free firewalls. Neither have great ratings. I have not read good reviews on the BitDefender firewall Do you know if BD firewall is certified anywhere yet? Anyone have any experience with Comodo free firewall which always gets top ratings?

Any suggestions and opinions are very much appreciated.

I am using BitDefender 10 plus, and running SUPERAntiSpyware. BD's antispyware engine is not that advanced. I also have a router, and a firewall to inside it. My level of protection is enough for a home computer.

It is not recommanded using too many security software in background, because they consume too much CPU time and memory. One antispyware software, eventually another firewall (! however I don't recommand this) should be enough.

You can run other security programs in the background when BitDefender realtime protection is active. But I only recommend that you let only one run in realtime mode of the other security programs. Because they can slow down you pc. Yes you can use a separate firewall but then I recommend that you only buy the basic version : http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-2145-en...ivirus-v10.html You can also opt to not install the firewall but it's wiser that you buy the version without firewall. The realtime protection blocks also the access when known malware (which also include spyware) is downloaded. So far as I know the firewall isn't certified. But it's enough for normal use. I mean "normal" surfing.

Commodo free is a one of the best free firewalls that there is. Followed by zonealarm free.
