Problems With Bd Internet Security 2009

Hello. This is just to list the various problems I am having with internet security 2009. I am currently unable to use the program due to the problems listed as it is constantly forcing me to reboot the PC.

1. When trying to use uTorrent, BD cuts the connection between my PC and my router, anything between 1 minute and an hour after I launch uTorrent. It then proceeds to slow down the PC until eventually it freezes up completely and I am forced to do a hard reboot.

2. When connecting to my vista PC through my XBOX 360 (for the purposes of streaming vid files on the PC to watch on my living room TV) BD again cuts the connection between my PC and the Router and proceeds to lock up the system.

3. The other day, I fired up an older PC with XP for the purpose of using uTorrent. This PC does not have BD installed and had no problems at all; however, within 20 minutes, even though the two computers were not communicating with each other beyond notifying each other that they were there, BD again Cut the connection between the PC and the Router and locked up the system.

4. When reading a file on adobe, adobe detected an update and proceeded to start a download of the update. This again lead to BD cutting the connection and locking up the PC.

5. When I tried to tell BD not to load on system Boot, the PC rebooted successfully, but BD still appeared on my taskbar, but all evidence of any network connections had been removed from the PC and it had no idea that there was a router attached. In order to regain my network connection I had to re-enable BD even though it seemed that it had never been disabled.

6. On one occasion, whilst purely browsing the internet on Firefox, BD again cut the connection and locked up the PC.

7. On a few occasions, upon system boot up, bitdefender remained disabled reporting that it had a problem, forcing a reboot before it would even load up.

8. Aproximately 50% of the time I was unable to gain access to the control panel for internet security as niether double clicking on the BD icon, or right clicking and selecting 'show' worked. Only a system reboot would get this function working again.

9. BD seemed to install its anti-spam onto my microsoft office outlook client, but it did not seem to do anything when I was downloading my e-mails. Additionally, actually trying to access it by hitting the BD anti spam button from within the e-mail client, resulted in outlook locking up, forcing me to go to the task manager in order to close it down.

Ok, to try and work around these problems, I tried disabling numerous parts of internet security, eventually disabling every single thing I could find, but it had no impact. Even with everything supposedly turned off, BD still cut my connection and locked up the PC. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling BD, but the problems remained.

In my attempts to solve the problems, I also removed every extraneous program I could think of, but the problems remained.

I would appreciate any help I can get with the above problems, because I bought the product about 2 months ago from a local store, and I seriously doubt they would refund me if I was to try and return it now. As it currently stands, I am unable to install the program on my PC if I wish to use the PC on the internet.

  • From what I could tell up to this point these crashes are related to one of the Firewall drivers. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps:

Go to Start - Run - type in "ncpa.cpl" then OK, right click on the local connection and select Properties. Now uncheck in that list "BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter Driver" and hit Apply then OK.

Try to test like this to see if the freeze reoccurs. This will temporarily disable the firewall, but you can always re-enable it by re-checking the NDIS driver.

If you don't experience any more freezes, please tell me the name and version of the network adapter that you are using, its chipset and the version of the driver that you are running for it.

  • I generally like BDTS2009 as it found and removed a bunch of viruses which not only got past McAfee Enterprise but actually removed it from several machines. And it seems less of a resource hog than McAfee.

However, the BD Firewall has been giving me serious headaches with regard to domain membership, and the host of IT-related things I'm used to doing from my machine. It took me over a month to figure out BD was the problem, and once I temporarily disabled the firewall I was actually able to get my machine to join our domain for the first time since Dec 23 (when the viruese attacked).

Today I actually got Outlook working and was able to read my mail from the last month. I had to manually add several servers related to DNS and Exchange to the firewall's Allow list.

But things are still not right. When I try to set NTFS permissions on a share to allow Authenticated Users to modify, looking up that group from our DC fails. I think BD thinks our DC is some sort of virus :)

Anyone else experiencing this kind of stuff?

You can try to disable Stealth Mode (if enabled) and to set the profile type to Trusted LAN. If the same situation persists then please send us an email with the complete issue description using the following web form: https://myaccount.bitdefender.com/site/MyAc...contactEmail/1/ (MyAccount login needed).

Yes, I disabled Stealth, and also (as noted) put in some explicit entries for some of the pertinent servers. But things still are a but flaky. I'm concurrently troubleshooting multiple issues on our DCs and network in general, so it may not be *all* BD's fault :) (I didn't mean to imply that it was)

    Thanks for the reply!

Hello. Sorry it took me so long to re-install and test this out.

I did as suggested and Utorrent has been runing successfully for about an hour now.

My Network adapter information is as follows :

NVIDIA Nforce Networking Controller : Version. 67.7.2.0

This is on an EVGA Nvidia 680i SLI motherboard.

I hope this is of some help in fixing my problem.

  • Let's try something:

Go to Start - run - type in regedit [OK] and go to this location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WS2IFSL

Highlight "WS2IFSL" - then on the right you will have "Start" - please right click on it and set the value to 4.

Please check if with the BitDefender firewall driver enabled you are still experiencing the freeze.

I did as you suggested, but the value was already set to 4.

Hello. Sorry I have taken so long to reply. I recieved your e-mail regarding gathering system information. Unfortunately, I was unable to do as suggested, because at about that time, BD internet security decided to stop working full stop. Every time I rebooted the PC, BD greyed out, and told me it was not working.

I then tried to uninstall it, and had several problems actually getting it to do just that.

I got extremely ###### off at that point, and left it alone until today. I tried to reinstall it, and after booting up the BD dvd, it prompted me to d-load and install the newer version. This I did, but the program then informed me that it couldnt install the program, and returned an install error.

I decided to retry with the original version which is on the DVD. This then informed me that an updated version of BD was on my computer, and I should uninstall it first. I hit the uninstall button and ran the uninstaller, then tried again and got the same response.

I then downloaded the BD uninstall tool, and tried again. Again I was informed that BD was still on my system.

I then rebooted and launched into safe mode, and ran the uninstaller again. I then booted back into windows, and tried to install yet again, only to be faced with the same response: a newer version of BD is on your system.

I am about ready to tear my hair out. I previously used BD anti-virus and commodo firewall with no problems. When my subscription to the anti-virus ran out, I thought I would upgrade to your all-in-one package, but Instead of better security, my PC has been without iether a virus scanner or firewall since the purchase of 2009.

I cant, at this point, get BD to even install on my PC, let alone try and get to the bottom of the initial problems I was having with it.
