Windows Autorun Update Kb967715
Every time I reboot I I get the Windows shield telling me to install this update. I do install it and receive the "Installation Complete" Message and the yellow windows shield goes away. Yet next time I reboot, it is back. I have never seen this behavior on my two-year old Windows SP2 system. Has this anything to do with my having Privacy Control/Enable Registry Control Enabled?

It sounds like the update patch does not correctly apply on your computer. Please refer to the following Microsoft article in order to troubleshoot your situation: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715
After that let us know how it went.0 -

I looked in the registry, but did not change it, and saw the new item put in by the autorun update, per the Microsoft web site you gave me. Then rebooted - but this time Windows did not tell me to do the update again (so far)! Did you change anything in BitDefender?
I have screen prints of two Events from Event Viewer/System showing two successful installations of the same package, 4 days apart - March 1 and March 5. I hate weird things like this.0 -

This morning Windows is again telling me that the package is not installed. So I looked at the registry entry for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE|SOFTWARE|Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\explorer and the entry for autorun (HonorAutoRun) has vanished! So either something removed it or my registry was restored. Not something I did myself. I noticed that BitDefender services "trufos" and "profos" start at midnight -can this have anything to do with this strange behaviour?0 -

I found a reference to this problem in http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=38665
It stated "There have been reports in the Microsoft Windows Update newsgroup of XP systems being reoffered KB967715 after a supposed sucessfull installation. What is most likely causing this issue is security software that 'guards' the registry against 'unwanted' changes"
So I did the manual registry change that the article suggested. But I am still not sure which security software the article claims is stopping the update. Might be BitDefender or might be a Lenovo module.

After manually adding the registry entry for the autorun update, and ascertaining that it was correctly there, I rebooted - and it has again vanished. What is going on here - why does this Windows update not stay in?
