Invalid Md5

I'm using bitdefender v10 and the automatic update reported an "invalid MD5" update error. Now I assume this means that one of the downloaded signatures

content was modified in some ways.

Ok, but my antivirus is set to download only from http://upgrade.bitdefender.com/ , which is the default setup. So how can the signature file be corrupted?

Not only that, what actions does the antivirus take when it encounters such an error? Does it keep the corrupted files? So does this mean that

my antivirus downloaded corrupted files and that it might run them? If it doesnt use them then it means that my antivirus is not up to date.

Isn't that a serious issue?

  • Hi!

I moved your topic to a more appropriate forum.

Those errors happene pretty often unfortunatelly for me to, the solution is to wait a couple of hours and make the update again. :) The files downloaded are not installed as updates, and, at the next update, only missing files will be downloaded and the complete update will be installed.

    The MD5 error appears when:

    1) you have a low-speed/unstable internet connection. The update packets might become corrupted.

    2) the update server is over-loaded.

    3) the update server is in the middle of updating process (new files are uploaded on them), in which case you might download a newer version and an older version of the same file which results in an error.

The solution is simple: either wait a few moments (sometimes the error is gone after a few seconds) and try again an update, either try another update server:

    http://upgrade.bitdefender.com (default setting)

    http://upgrade1.bitdefender.com

    http://upgrade2.bitdefender.com

    http://upgrade3.bitdefender.com

    http://upgrade4.bitdefender.com

my antivirus downloaded corrupted files and that it might run them? If it doesnt use them then it means that my antivirus is not up to date.

Absolutely not. As long as BitDefender has detected that the files have become corrupted, it would be simply mad to try to run them :D

Your BD will be up-to-date as soon as the next update is made. This is not a serious issue, and it is not caused by a fault in the BitDefender product. The MD5 error is actually a protection system against broken updates.
