Cannot Install Bf Antivirus Plus In Vista

Options

Hi. I got a new laptop on Friday with Windows Vista. I installed my current version of BF AntiVirus Plus with no issues, and my serial # was accepted. Today it occurred to me that I had installed BD for XP, not BD for Vista. So I uninstalled the BD on the machine, and tried to install BF for Vista. This is when I run into problems. Even though I am logged on as the only user with Administrative Rights, using the latest build as recommended on the Forum, the software always stops installing at "Starting services", saying "vsserv failed to start" and "verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services." This now happens whether I use the Vista or XP version of BD. I tried the registry trick Niels mentioned but that makes no difference. I have searched on the Forum for "vsserv" and system privileges, but have had no luck in solving my problem. Can someone please advise? Thanks very much.

    Hi fastandbad,

This is Vista's fault. It has the UAC (User Account Control) system which doesn't allow applications to run with Administrator privileges.

You have to disable UAC (or to make some rules for BD to be granted Administrator right) before you install BD, or else you might end up with a faulty product: vsserv can't start, BD can't update, Firewall driver can't be installed, etc...

As I said, this is Vista's fault, not BD's.

If you need help with disabling UAC, I'm sorry to say that I don't have Vista and I don't know much of it. You can search this Forum, because it was discussed before.

    Cris.

    Hello fastandbad

Here you will find how to disable it just on the administrator accounts: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...istrators-only/

or this is a little bit unsafe for everybody: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/
