Bitdefender Update Fails - File: Pc_pornography.dat

Hello,

For the last two weeks BitDefender on one of my two PCs has been unable to complete updates when it specifically attempts to download PC_PORNOGRAPHY.DAT. The other PC is completely up-to-date and I have no idea why there should be difference between the two as both have the same update servers specified in their settings.

I tried a repair but this had no beneficial effect and have also completely removed and reinstalled yet still receive the same problem. I have (temporarily) switch this machine to be protected by Kaspersky Anti-Virus as I got a trial key for a month and am unwilling to leave my PC unprotected.

Please advise of how to proceed.

Kind regards,

Giles Klech

    Hello Giles Klech ,

I have created you a support ticket ID and sent you an email with some instructions that you need to follow. Reply to my email please in case the BitDefender update fails again .

  • Alexandru,

I actually cannot believe that you think this is a reasonable response to my question!! I made it very clear in the post that I ONLY installed Kaspersky temporariliy after encountering the problems with BitDefender that a repair and uninstall / reinstall couldn't resolve. I know how to uninstall Kaspersky as I'm highly PC-literate but am not going to do so until I know that the problems updating BitDefender can be resolved and a strategy for doing so forwarded to me. I am unwilling to browse the Internet without an up-to-date AV utility installed.

    Kind regards,

    Giles Klech

  • Hello,

For the last two weeks BitDefender on one of my two PCs has been unable to complete updates when it specifically attempts to download PC_PORNOGRAPHY.DAT. I had this problem previously on my other PC yet managed to resolve it by manually copying the PC_PORNOGRAPHY.DAT file into the ANTISPAM_SIG_XXXX folder. However on this PC there is no XXXX folder so I am unaware of how to proceed.

Please advise of how to resolve this error.

    Kind regards,

    Hello,

I had a problem like this, solved in this way:

In my router's firewall setting filter, "Keyword blocking of HTTP traffic", the word "po*n" was active. Removing this word now let bitdefender to normally update.

I hope this can help ;)

  • I also have the same problem with pc_pornography.dat file. I already tried the repair option, still I can't update. I would need an urgent response because my computer is connected to a network where there are a lot of virii and trojans. Thanks.

  • Hello d_ignat,

Please follow the steps bellow and let us know what happened:

    1. Download the "pc_pornography.dat" file from the next link : http://www.sendspace.com/file/x2h6v7

    2. Reboot the PC in Safe Mode.

    - restart the computer;

    - repeatedly press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins

    to load (you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu);

    - select "SAFE MODE" in the text menu and press "Enter".

    - wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation message; click "Yes" to acknowledge.

    3. Go to the next location C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2009\as2core and access the folder antispam_sig_XXXXX (look after the folder with higher number because in this one the latest updates are stored).

    4. Here copy the file that you have downloaded then restart your computer in Normal Mode .

    5. Test the Update module and let us know if it worked.

    Thank you .

  • Thank you for your reply, but I still didn't manage to solve my problem. I downloaded the pc_pornography.dat file and I copied it to the antispam_sig_ folder with the higher number, using safe mode.

I restarted and tried the update module, but it stopped again trying to download the pc_pornography.dat file.

Any other ideas which I might try?

  • Hello d_ignat,

Please start your computer in Safe Mode then go to the next location from your system:C:\Program Files\Common Files\BitDefender\BitDefender Update Service .Here you should see 2 files: "versions.dat.XXXX..." and "versions.id.XXXX... ". Please delete these 2 files then replace one more time the "pc_pornography.dat" as instructed in my last post.

Reboot your computer in Normal Mode and let us know if the same issue occurs.

    Thank you .
