"malware Catcher 2009"

Our BD AV 2009, fully updated, completely ignored the fake antivirus "Malware Catcher 2009". This very malicious software isn't even that new. Is anything being done to prevent this kind of lapse in the future? Is it safe to assume you're now catching it?

  • Hello Jeff Dickens,

Rogue antivirus software appear everyday, just like any other type of malware. There are hundreds, maybe thousands or more different releases and this means that it's basically impossible to detect all of them and all their variants (because one malware can have multiple variants). It's the reason why no anti-malware engine will ever be able to reach 100% detection rate.

This being said, if you provide us with a link to some samples, they can be forwarded to the BitDefender Labs, checked out, and signed accordingly (if necessary).

As a sidenote, please do NOT post links to possibly infected or dangerous files on the public forum, as you can put other users in danger. Please send such links by PM to one of the Moderators, or directly to BitDefender Support by email. Thank you.

    Cris.
