Windows Installer Issue Linked To Bd Uninstall

I tried installing the new Internet Security 2009 without first uninstalling my existing Internet Security 2008.

When there was an error to the installation, it went ahead and uninstalled the files it had tried to install.

In doing so, it also uninstalled my IS 2008.

Then upon restart, my computer now automatically tries to install Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.

I tried restoring my system from numerous restore points, but none worked.

I have since successfully installed IS 2009, but I still have the issue after each startup, even if I allow Roxio to be installed (it fails each time).

I have a workaround by disabling Windows Installer, but this is not a true resolution to the problem.

I went thru the same process on my wife's computer about 6 months ago. She previously had Norton on her system and we changed to BitDefender. Again I tried installing BD 2008 without uninstalling Norton first (not wanting to leave her system open to hijackers even for a brief moment).

This is the 2nd time I made this mistake, because on her system, I thought the Installer issue was due to Norton or Roxio, not BitDefender's Uninstall.

I had tried many, many ways to fix the problem on her system, but only found the workaround to be a temporary fix, but now it is doing the same thing on my system.

Can anyone help with this matter ?

    Hello Major Truth ,

You should try performing a clean reinstallation of BitDefender . For start , you will have to download and run our uninstall tool from the next link:http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall .This tool is designed to remove any BitDefender traces that exist on your system . After the uninstall process is finished , download the BitDefender installation kit from the next link:http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...ty_2009_32b.exe and run it in order to install BitDefender . You should not encounter the same issues after that .

For your wife's computer , we suggest you to check Norton website for their similar uninstall tool which should remove all files related to this program .

Please let us know how what happened .

Thank you for your quick response!

I did try that when I encountered the problem on my wife's computer. Remember, I stated I tried many, many ways to fix the problem.

I doubt anyone will be able to give me a solution for this, unless they know exactly what I am experiencing. I can't believe this would not have happened to many others, since it happened to me twice on two seperate computers.

  • first thing first.

you should have uninstalled bd 2008 and norton before installing new bd.

this way you avoid any software conflicts.

and if you're really scared of any possible threat, simply cut an internet access off for the time of setup process.
