Hello all ,

One of the reasons you receive the message that the " BitDefender Services Are Not Responding " is determined due to a communication issue between two BitDefender processes . Though, this does not mean that the program itself is not working. It is only a display issue , the main BitDefender processes being actually active . There can be multiple causes that can lead to this message and in order to see if the current situation applies to you , please check the following :

A. Open Task Manager and click on the Processes tab . Task Manager can be opened in multiple ways :

• simultaneously press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Shift+Del keys ;

• click on Start from Windows , choose Run , type “taskmgr” and click on Ok after that;

• right click on your task bar and choose Task Manager ;

B. Now , please look in the list of processes after "vsserv.exe" (the main BitDefender service) . If is listed there , then you can perform the workaround bellow.

Here is what you have to do :

1. Please follow the next link:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/6yltpv and save the ProductTweaks.xml file on your system .

2. Start your computer in Safe Mode :

- restart the computer;

- repeatedly press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins

to load (you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu);

- select "SAFE MODE" in the text menu and press "Enter".

- wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation message; click "Yes" to acknowledge.

3. Display hidden files and folders .

- go to your "Control Panel" and open "Folder Options";

- then go to the "View" tab and perform the changes listed below:

* check "Display contents of system folders"

* check "Show hidden files and folders"

* uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types"

* uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"

- click "Apply" and then "OK" to exit.

On Microsoft Windows Vista you will apply the same steps except for selecting "Display contents of system folders".

4. Go to the next location from your computer :

C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\BitDefender\Desktop\Profiles (if you are using Windows Vista ) or C:\Documents and Settings\<your_username>\Application Data\BitDefender\Desktop\Profiles (if you are using Windows XP) and copy here the file downloaded earlier : ProductTweaks.xml and choose Yes when you will be asked if you want to replace the file .

5. Restart your computer in Normal Mode and everything should be ok .

It may be possible that you don’t find vsserv.exe process listed in the Processes section of Task Manager. In this situation please perform the steps from the next BitDefender article :support@bitdefender.com .
