Bd Antivirus 2010 Completely Ruined My Computer

<img class=" />

I moved into my college dorm today, and decided that with the unsecured network I'll be using, I could use some extra protection on my computer. BD Antivirus 2010 came up from a bunch of different searches for good anti-virus programs, and now I wish more than ANYTHING that I had just not installed this thing. I purchased the software, read the installation instructions through, and proceeded to download the software. After being prompted to restart my system, I did so. Instantly after that, my computer went into what can only be described as complete lockdown mode (I can force a shutdown, and after restarting, I get the usual loading screen from windows and then I am taken to the usual login screen, after entering my password, though the system completely freezes up, not continuing the sign-on process, or responding when I click on the shutdown button NOTE: i AM able to move my cursor around the screen).

The ONLY way to log into my computer is through safemode, I cannot even contact BD customer care, because I cannot register an account through BD Antivirus! Also, I tried to remove the program all together from the system, and I am unable to do so in safemode. If anyone has ANY suggestions, please, please, PLEASE let me know, because, as I said before, I just got back to school and I desperately need my computer to be functional within the next week so that I can do my schoolwork!!!!

I should note that my computer was in 100% perfect running condition with 88.5 GB of free space on my computer, after the download.

  • Additional information:

In Safemode with Networking, I attempt to open BD Antivirus, and I receive the message, BitDefender Services are not responding.

  • I had one such problem when I restarted after the major update from Wednesday. The computer locked out and I couldn't do anything except force a shutdown. After restarting however, the computer did go on with the normal sign-on process and has been functioning normally since then.

But I hope do not encounter the same lock-out problem whenever I will reboot again (I haven't done that since then - used sleep instead). Perhaps I would hate to go through all that again.

    Hi lknig1!

First of all if u can go in safe mode that is always a good thing. Yet it seems to u that everytime u login ur computer locksdown, it is a good thing one explanation would be that u r infected with a malware and since BD is not able to fix it in normal mode it locksdown so the malware cannot do further damage. Its like containing something.

What i would recommend u is go in safe mode with networking and then try to update ur BD product and if u cant in any case run a deep system scan and eventually delete any malware or fix any errors. Then restart ur computer one more time. Hopefully this shud solve ur issues.

    Regards,

There might be another explanation for why his computer locked. I mean, it happened the same to me and I had done a Deep Scan beforehand and the system was clean. And after restart, everything functioned normally.

  • Hi lknig1,

First do you have to enter a password to logon to windows? If you do does the password dots show up and stay there when you press the enter key? When I logon that is what happens. My pc sits at that point for about 5 minutes or so, then it says "loading user settings", and sits there for another 5 - 10 minutes then I hear the windows startup sound and the desktop comes up and everything works fine after that. I does take a good 15 minutes for my PC boot up to the desktop. While I am waiting I can more the mouse and my HD light blinks.

Maybe you are experiencing the same thing.

    lknig1,

Been there, done that. The only thing I could do was to uninstall and fall back to BDAV 2009. You'll have to use BD uninstaller found at:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/files/Knowledge...nstall_Tool.exe

because you can't uninstall in safemode from Windows. I keep hoping they can find out what's going wrong. The installer for BDAV 2009 is such a treat, and the installer for BDAV 2010 has been a horror.

    Good luck,

Yes, I've had this computer for almost a year now, completely issue free. I enter my password, the "privacy dots" show up, and I click the arrow (essentially, enter key) and I actually fell asleep while waiting for it, woke up an hour later, and it was exactly the same.

I was able to get my computer functioning out of safe mode thanks to my computer genius friend. I had to go into msconfig and hide all microsoft, then disable everything else. I'm not sure what to do about the BD at all now, I'm going to try to make it work, if it doesn't i'm going to have words with the customer care reps and i WILL get my money back. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Is there a way for me to get 09 without purchasing another subscription?

    lknig1,

I would hope that you could download BDAV 2009 and use the new license for BDAV 2010 to activate it. Then update to BDAV 2010 when they get the problems resolved. You can get BDAV 2009 at the following:

    http://download.cnet.com/BitDefender-Antiv...4-10537298.html

I hope they would honor the downgrade to get the upgrade.

    Best of luck,

  • Same problem to me. I have posted a thread here as well. My system is a Mac that have Windows Vista 32 bit SP2 installed on a bootcamp partition. Bitdefender IS 2010 install fine after removal of 2009. But it lock after I enter my log ion name and password.

Error is with LogonUI and otther Windows module. So I boot into safe mode, manual;ly remove all BitDefender folder from Windows Explorer. Reboot back, unintsall 2010, then revert back to BitDefender IS 2009.

I posted complaunts but seems to me that there is no response so far. Too bad, me too have 500 days to subscription active!!!!

Never trust a software company by paying money for long subscription. I don't know when the workable 2010 will come out.

So horrible, I wasted the whole day with BitDefender 2010 IS without any return!!!

  • Hello lknig1,

We have replied to email that you have sent us. We want to inform that we can change your license key so that you can use BitDefender Antivirus 2009, until we manage to determine what is causing this issue . You just have to reply to my email with the serial number and one of my colleagues from the Customer Care department will do the changes .

As for the issue that you encountered, we would like you to follow the steps from the next BitDefender article :http://www.bitdefender.com/KB389 and send us the following files :"sysdump.tar", "bdfileinfo.log" and "bdregnode.reg" .

We are looking forward to your reply .

    Thank you .
