Can't Live Update
When I try to run live update or when BD tries, I get an error message that says "invalid server or proxy settings". I'm not on a network and don't use proxy settings. I am accessing internet via cable modem (with attached wireless router for work computer). Please help. Windows XP / BD Int Sec 2010

Hello TJR,
First of all, welcome for joining BitDefender Forum
About your problem, do you use any other security suite on your system (especially a firewall)?
Please post a screenshot of BitDefender Security Center -> Update -> Settings.

Hi Cris,
No other security software is installed or running. The windows firewall has been deactivated. The screenshot is attached. Whats next?? Thanks for the help.0 -
Please go to Start -> Run and type the following command:
tracert upgrade.bitdefender.com > C:\trace.txt
and press Enter.
When it finishes, find the file C:\trace.txt and attach it to your next post.
Also, please check the proxy settings in BitDefender (at Update -> Settings press Proxy settings).

I copied and pasted your code string into the run command and hit enter. But I can't find the C:\trace.txt file. Searched for it with no results. Proxy settings are empty.0 -
Try to write cmd in Run, press Enter, then write that command in the console that appears. It should work this way.

Unable to resolve target system name upgrade.bitdefender.com.0 -
Try this: go to BitDefender Security Center -> Update -> Settings and set the following address as Primary Location: 194.109.207.30
Press Apply and try the update.
If it works, make a complete update and, after that, a Deep System Scan (Antivirus -> Virus scan). Clean all infections (if any) and post the final scan log here. After the scan reboot your system.
Then, revert the update location to upgrade.bitdefender.com and see if the update is working.
If after the system scan the update is still not working, or if the update doesn't work with the address I gave you, then read this article: http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB490-br--The-sy...s-infected.html
Generate those 2 logs, upload them HERE and post the download link in your next post.

Cris,
The proxy setting did not work. I also could not access the AVIS.zip and GMER.zip site - it kept timing out. So I used the two utilities described on the Bitdefender web site for generating logs. Can you do something with this information??? I appreciate your help but after spending 80 dollars this is getting crazy.0 -

Also, Here is a screenshot of the error message.0 -
I've put the two archives on my page:
Since you're having problems accessing different parts of the BitDefender website, there is a chance that there's nothing wrong with BitDefender, but your computer is infected.
In this case, there's not much I can do with the logs you posted, as they are used to trouble shoot a problem with the BitDefender products, not an infection.
