End Process Bitdefender 2010?

Options

Hi,

I've just upgraded to BitDefender Internet Security 2010. I'm running Windows Vista 32bit.

There are times when I would like to close down BD and end all processes. I was able to do this with the 2008 version, but every time I try to end the process in Task Manager, I get an "Access Denied" message. If there is an option in the BD program itself, I have not noticed it.

Is there anyway to shut down BD during times I don't want it to run?

    Hello APeX3181,

No, BitDefender SelfProtect module prevents you from closing it's processes/services, or to change/delete any of it's files.

To put it in simple words, if you could close it, then any malware could close it. So to prevent forced closure of the protection, BitDefender protects all it's essential processes/files from any access, as there is no way to make a difference between a malicious forced closure, and a user trying to kill the processes willingly.

You can stop BitDefender from running, but you have to reboot in SafeMode, disable BitDefender's services, then reboot in normal mode. And when you need to turn it back on, you have to repeat the steps (SafeMode, enable services, reboot).

However, by simply disabling all BtDefender modules (from BitDefender Security Center, without any reboots) will disable all filtering. The processes will continue to be present in memory, but they will be completely idle (except, of course, SelfProtect, which continues to protect the processes against access).

    Cris.

So in other words, in order for me to wrestle control of my computer AWAY from your product I have to perform some kabuki dance and offer a sacrificial goat to it???? Who's BRILLIANT ideas was this?

Did any of the developers dare to THINK about enabling some option that would allow the user (a.k.a. "Beta tester") to regain control of his resources instead of being forced to sit idly by watching his vsserv.exe bounce between 89 and 98% use of CPU?

I have an idea! Instead of "protecting us from ourselves", why not put in a password protected capability or some other secure method in place to ENABLE your beta testers/customers to maintain control of their machine's resources? Or are you just going to tell us "it's too difficult and we give up on it" again as you continue to lose customers?

  • I completely agree. I am using the full BitDefender Total Security Suite and it likes to gray and not respond, which BitDefender people won't give one exact reason and it can "just happen" apparently. Anyways, I figured if I can close the process I can restart the program without having to restart my computer. This is ridiculous.

For high CPU usage by "Vsserv" check below link
