Bitdender Services Are Not Responding

OS: Windows XP, service pack 3
Problem: BitDefender Security Services (vsserv.exe) is unavailable at the moment. Please restart the computer and try again. If the problem persists, please check our online support.
BitDefender has been giving this problem nearly every day since my last format 3 weeks ago. It works for a limited time after rebooting, then stops responding. Even though it is not responding, seccenter.exe and vsserv.exe are each using about 33% of my cpu processing.
